Quick question guys,
I am at a N.C community college finishing my last semester to obtain my associate in arts. I applied as a junior applicant the transcript I sent in has 47 credits on it but this semester I am taking 21 and should end up with 68 total by May.
My question is did I mess up by applying as a junior since they are only able to currently see 47 out of the total 68 I will earn? I applied to one of the professional schools at UNC and it requires I transfer as a junior. I also did not send in test scores because it said junior applicants did not have to. I did indicate on my application that I am graduating in May with a associates in arts but I did not mention the credit situation since it was only boxes on the common app that asked about if I was still attending and if I’ll be earning an associates. I have read that they evaluate credits after you are accepted but I’m not sure if this will prevent me from being accepted to the professional school I applied to since it requires junior status? Right now they only have 47 credits to evaluate until I send in my full completed transcript in May.
You will be fine applying as a junior. I actually applied as a sophomore in 2017 having 25 completed credits at the time. I ended up having 61 and an Associate in Science before starting this past fall at Carolina. They will adjust your class status from sophomore to junior once you submit your final transcript that states you earned your degree and will award you a block of 60 credits and fulfill all gen ed requirements except foreign language (unless you took up to level 3) and Lifetime fitness (unless you have completed an equivalent class). As for the junior status being required for the professional school, I believe you just have to be a junior at time of matriculation when you start classes, which shouldn’t be a problem if you graduate in May. @drx58973
I’m getting so anxious and just want to know their decision!! I wish they told us sooner.
glad to know im not the only one!!
The time will be here before we know it! Last year it was April 6 when they released decisions, so we could only be two weeks away from finding out.
Is anyone else transferring with an Associates Degree? I heard that we’ll be exempt from gen ed requirements… Is that correct?
I’m currently enrolled in the Summer School! I figured out a schedule with my advisor at my current university to be sure that my credits will transfer over if I don’t end up getting into Carolina. I informed admissions that I’ll be taking summer classes at UNC… for some reason I felt like that would help? lmao. I’m literally so nervous about decisions. Anyways I’d definitely look into enrolling in summer school if it’s not too late
They offer tons of summer classes
@girlypop13 It’s mostly correct. All of the major gen ed requirements will be fulfilled if you earn an Associate from an N.C. CC. There are some that you may still need to take, such as the Foreign language gen ed if you’ve haven’t taken up to level 3. In addition, you’ll also need to have a class equivalent to UNC’s lifetime fitness courses. You can check to see if a class would transfer to UNC as LFIT by checking out the transfer credit equivalencies on UNC’s website.
Also, everyone be on the lookout for an email from admissions titled, “Important Update from Carolina”. It will start off thanking you for your interest and then will say they won’t be able to release decisions on that day. UNC admissions will also post the same verbiage on their blog post. The very next afternoon, decisions will be released. It is unlikely to be April 6th as the release dates have fallen on a different day each year for the past few years. However, it’ll likely be within a week of that day. Just know when you receive that email, decisions will be out the next day.
I’ve heard that too, minus any language or fitness requirement.
That is correct. If you haven’t taken/placed out of up to level 3 of a foreign language or haven’t taken an LFIT equivalent, you will need to take them.
We should be looking at between April 5th and April 12th for decisions…
-2018 was Friday, April 6th
-2017 was Friday, April 7th
-2016 was Thursday, April 14th
-2015 was April 8th I think
Did RDs all come out a week earlier in 15, 17, and 18?
I think so, I got sort of lost searching through all of the threads but I’m pretty sure the only year it came out a week later was ‘16
Just be on the lookout for the “Important Update from Carolina” email. The day after you get that email, decisions will be released.
Then I guess if RDs are tomorrow, we should bet on 4/5. If not then 4/12.
I hope we all get in!!! I’m praying for all of us! it would be a dream to be a Tarheel
Looks like we’re two weeks out! RDs are rolling out as we speak.
I’m so nervous!!! I know that I’ve done all I can, but I am so worried. My back up plan is UNCW, but I really have had my heart set on Chapel Hill.
