UNC Transfer fall 2019

Good luck to everyone applying! Can’t wait to see you guys on campus this fall. As always, don’t hesitate to reach out for questions or anything Carolina in general.

With decisions coming out soon, could you potentially chance me/tell me where I stand as I am trying to be very realistic regarding the decision. Thank you!

I thought my essays were actually awesome, and the people I got to read them agreed.

I think at this point, not much can be offered in terms of chancing anyone. Carolina posted their transfer admission stats (average GPA among other stats) in the 2018 class profile but that doesn’t tell you anything about what they look for holistically, just numerically/statistically. Last year there were people with quite good stats (GPA/SAT) that were still not admitted. I guess I would say trust in your hard work in getting to this point and in Carolina’s holistic admissions process. This is just my personal opinion, so take it with a grain of salt.

Indeed. In here (a small sample, but alas) there were transfers with 4.0s who were rejected and 3.4s who were admitted. Numbers are a big part of what UNC looks for, but it’s only a part.

Is there a wait list for transfer students? Or is it just accepted/denied?

It’s definitely hard to chance people, I agree. One thing I’ve noticed is that admissions tends to lean towards people who will add diversity to the campus… I think if you were able to express some unique quality in your app, you stand a good chance  Good numbers are always helpful of course. I’m freakin out over how soon decisions may come out but I wish everyone the best of luck!!! And @reidtw last year there was a wait list. I think a couple people from last year’s thread got in if you wanna read their stats. There’s also an option to get guaranteed acceptance for Spring 2020 (even though you can’t apply midyear)

@girlypop13 food for thought; thank you!

So I’m reviewing my common application for probably the 15th time, and I discovered a few errors:

  1. I meant to write "since freshman year" when describing one of my extracurriculars, but I instead wrote "since freshman."
  2. On the parent/guardian section, I put there was 1 person living in the household instead of 2.
  3. When it asks if any relatives have attended UNC, I put none. But I have a cousin who is currently attending UNC as we speak. (I'm pretty sure I looked into that though and found an issue with listing him, so I just ended up saying none. But I can't remember.)

Will these errors harm my chances of admission? If so, is there any way to fix them at this point? Is it too late? Please help me out!

@reidtw As long as it’s not riddled with grammar issues, I doubt that would make or break you. Not sure about the household thing, maybe double check with admissions. Lastly, I highly doubt not listing a cousin would matter. It’s a nice thought, but probably not a close enough relative to make a difference. These are my totally unqualified opinions.

I’ve purposely avoided rereading my Common app because it was driving me crazy. Lol.

Cousins don’t count. They’re looking for siblings or parents to determine legacy.

@bree24601 @Mcunn226 phew, thanks! I will call the admissions office Monday and let them know about the household mistake. Hopefully it is not a big deal.

@reidtw I know that must be frustrating, I have a typo in my application that I can’t correct because it’s already been submitted. You could always email them the corrections though.

@transferluk I have some missing commas in my short answer that I didn’t catch before I submitted. It’s stressing me out so much. I wish I could be there to say that I SWEAR I had proofread and had my Writing Center read them too. ? This entire process is nerve wracking. I don’t believe they would let me fix that though this late.

@bree24601 the essay isn’t necessarily a test of your writing or grammar skills, it helps them see who you are and what you could bring to campus. So I wouldn’t stress over it. Anyway the common app won’t let corrections be made at this point

Thanks, @transferluk. It’s actually good to see that we all have made some mistakes. Honestly, I feel as though UNC expects mistakes throughout each application. I doubt any applicant’s is perfect.

I hope everyone gets accepted. I have been following this thread for a while even though I never commented until recently. The positive vibes and helpfulness of everyone here really aids me in keep the anxiety of not knowing under control.

How was everyones video interview? What’d you think of the questions?

I personally hate video interviews, feel like they take the personal aspect out of interviewing.

I didn’t have one. Was it for KF?

I’m guessing the interviews are strictly for KF applicants
