Oh seriously! That’s surprising but also so exciting! Thank you.
Hey! So more grades have been put in and I’m looking at closer to a 3.55 GPA for this semester, pending a few more finals. How much do you think this will increase my chances?
@reidtw definitely improves your chances! Seems like you’ve done pretty well at a solid school, and you did great in high school, which is important because they’ll be paying a lot of attention to that as well. Applying to the College of Arts and Sciences is a good move as well since it’s definitely easier to be admitted there. Assuming they’ll see that you applied and were rejected the first time around, I think you’ve got pretty good chances of admission. Good luck!
Wrapping the semester: should get my GPA nudged up to a 3.91 with 54 credits under my belt. Taking another 9 hours in the spring to max out what I can transfer in.
I’m actually thinking I might be able to do this.
Hi! I’m currently a freshman applying from the University of Pittsburgh. I would have completed 38 credits by the end of this year, and here are my stats:
College GPA: 3.942
SAT: 1300
High School GPA: 91% or a 3.7
I took 5 APs and almost every honors class in my school.
Majors: Environment and/or Sociology
Jobs: currently have 3 as a summer camp counselor, research assistant, and Jumpstart corps member (preschool teacher)
Activities: I have many leadership positions, and I edit the campus sociology journal
I just applied and am really nervous! Could anyone tell me what my chances would be? Thank you so much!
Even with flawless credentials, an OOS applicant is almost impossible to honestly chance since the admission rate is so low.
@Mcunn226 transferring as an OOS student, while still competitive, is much less competitive than applying as an OOS freshman
I thought so too…however I couldn’t find any data to confirm that in any of the datasets. As an in-state junior applicant for next year, I’d love to see some info on the transfer admin stats (mainly to calm my ulcers down).
@Mcunn226 there are probably some stats online somewhere, not exactly sure where though. The competitiveness for freshman comes from the required 82-18% split between in state and out of state students, but that rule is not enforced in transfer admissions which is something I know for sure.
There are very few schools I can apply to/afford because of aid though so I’m with you, I already know the wait is going to give me way too much anxiety lol
Are you applying this year?
As a Fall 2018 in-state transfer, I can definitely say they accept a very fair amount of OOS students based on the amount of OOS transfers that I have met. The rule of accepting a certain amount of IS students does not apply to transfers. Interestingly, 44% of this year’s transfer class transferred from an N.C Community college (that’s where I transferred from as well). However, there is an OOS school that is listed as a “top feeder”, Miami-Dade College.
They admitted 1,128 students, of which 708 enrolled. Of the 708 enrolled students, about 47% were juniors, roughly 40% were sophomores and nearly 13% are first year transfers. And while they don’t have GPA/SAT data for this year, they do have it for 2016. If anyone is interested in looking in these stats, search up UNC class profile and it’ll be from the UNC admissions site.
Glad to know there’s no OOS Transfer quota. Still wish I could find some broken-down stats though. The class profile doesn’t get that granular.
I’m at freshman thinking about transferring to UNC but I don’t know if I will get in this year or if I should wait.
High school stats:
3.3 UW / 4.2 W
26 ACT / 1220 SAT
College stats:
4.0 GPA
Gen chem 1, Intro Bio, Intro Psych, English, Freshman seminar.
In a few clubs and do a lot of volunteer work.
I will also have around 43 credit hours after this year.
Anyone think I’ll get in as a sophomore transfer? Planning on majoring in bio.
Hi everyone!
I am applying as a sophomore transfer in Fall 2019, planning to apply for economics and hopefully getting into business later.
Current School: UT McCombs
College GPA: 3.91/4.0
I went to high school in China so there is no quantitive GPA, but my overall transcript looks good, mostly A and A-.
Standardized Tests:
SAT: 1490/1600
AP: 5 in Calculus BC, Stats, Psychology, Macro & Micro
SAT Subject: Math: 800, Physics 730, Chemistry 720
EC:
College: Women in Business–distinguished member;
University Security Investment Team–analyst group member
Chinese Student and Scholars Association–executive committee member
Central Texas Model United Nations–staff
Volunteer Project–Team Lead
Business Operations Intern at a local company
University Honors
High School: Math Olympaid
Table Tennis Club–president
Tea Culture Club–vice president
Students Union—director of academic department
Customer Service Intern at Citi
Others: Volunteer tutor in my community
Research about beaches in my city
Research about state enterprises
Teaching Assistant at an education company
Content writer for an online channel
Editor for a handbook about AP Macro
Other backgrounds: Asian, OOS, U.S. permanent resident, applied for freshman last year and got rejected
Essay: I chose peer & backgrounds. I talked about an upperclassman in investment banking who encouraged me to rethink about my career goal & tea culture experience.
And one last question: I am wondering if it worth to transfer to economics at UNC while I am already at McCombs. I need to apply for business at UNC and might be rejected. But as I am not in BHP at UT, I feel that I have fewer opportunities than BHP kids. And the class size is a bit big at UT.
Please chance me and give me some advice! Any comments are welcomed!
Hey guys, I have a quick question. Did you guys filled out the part of the application about the activities you found worthwhile?
@Mcunn226 yeah I’m applying this year, hoping to get into M&J for advertising
I just got my final grade report, and surprisingly my GPA turned out to be 3.73! I really hope it will be good enough. I’ve completed roughly 70% of the transfer application; I need to finish my resume and I’m taking my time on the essays to make sure they’re the best they can be. I’m excited to apply though!
Just submitted! God help us all.
Please, CHANCE ME!
I’m currently a freshman at UNCW, wishing to transfer as a Sophomore, majoring in Economics. Here are my stats:
High School:
4.3 GPA
22 ACT
1130 SAT
EC:

Junior Civitan-Sergeant at Arms
President of Student Against Destructive Decisions (SADD)
College:

I’m applying to the College of Arts & Sciences as a sophomore, and hopefully applying to the Business School. I’m aware that ACT/SAT are still a big factor when applying as a sophomore transfer, but I would like to know if I have a chance! Thanks guys.
@hazelbagel you took 26 credits in one semester?
