Shots were near, not on campus, just to clarify!
I added that to my post. Didn’t mean to over alarm.
My D got Honors waitlisted today. On the honors website they mention their process is holistic and they have no certain test scores/gpa ranges like others do so anyone has a shot. A little shocked as we have Clemson and SC Honors offers but glad to know they approach their Honors so holistically and truly wishing the best for anyone hoping for the Honors admit. Good luck!!!
Mine got UNCW honors college…she likely won’t go, so hoping that opens up a spot for some who really want it!
Anyone know when merit comes for UNCW? I know not much is offered, but curious…
Congrats to your kiddo!! Not sure about merit. I think it is discussed a little further up the thread with a link.
Got a yes to honors college program. I don’t think merit scholarships will come out for awhile. March 1 is the priority deadline for UNC-W scholarship applications. Our daughter is likely to decline too-- looking at other schools for poli sci. Don’t give up on the wait list. Lots of things will shift around and sort out as kids make decisions. <3
Yes for honors! Heard via email today. Making this a little more interesting…
Agreed!
In case anyone is watching the UNCW waitlist, my son came off the waitlist this week. This is a nice in-state option for us, but it’ll be hard to have him stop and re-evaluate what was once a top 4 option. 7 weeks is a long time.
Congrats to him! Did he get an email notification to check his portal?
Yes, he received an email.
Merit scholarships are out. My D got an email this morning. UNCW Distinguished Merit Scholarship. $4,500 for 3 consecutive years if you maintain a 3.5 gpa($18000 total). It’s a generous in-state offer and makes UNCW our most affordable option, but my D doesn’t think UNCW is a good fit. She also was not accepted into the Honors College which isn’t a deal breaker but that would have made a more compelling case. Just wanted to get this info out there for next year’s families. Good luck to everyone!!
Same for mine, but was also accepted to honors college. It was a far more generous offer than we expected. Mine has already decided on UNC-Ch Hill, but we were pretty blown away by the offer. I think this offer puts her the same as UNC Asheville. Looks like with UNCW’s problems with not having enough in state kids last year, they are doing what they can to attract top students in state to go there. For people looking next year, mine was 4.44w/3.88uw, 33 ACT, strong extracurriculars.
Did anyone OOS get anything for merit? Just wondering if something may still be coming
Good luck to your daughter at Chapel Hill!! Exciting. My D had a 32 ACT, 4.0 UW so looks like the stronger test score helped with honors which makes sense. We’re still deciding over here. Hopefully my D decides something soon. lol
Yes, I’m sure it’s a combo of things including gpa, scores, essays, rigor if schedule and rigor of school, and recommendations. And activities. Despite not being 4.0, she got into honors everywhere except Carolina, including NC State.
That’s really awesome!! Kudos to your kiddo.
Did you receive notification to your child’s UNCW email or was the award on the portal. Still haven’t heard anything here and my son had similar stats.
Daughter received an email in the email account used for the application (not UNCW email account). The update was in her portal. We are in-state. We were very surprised because daughter had decided not to apply for scholarships through the scholarship portal and didn’t expect anything from them. She also received the Distinguished scholarship of $4500 a year. It makes it her cheapest option but they do not have a direct admit nursing program. She does not want to stress over whether she’ll get admitted into upper level nursing here or at Chapel Hill, so they went to the bottom of her list after she got a few direct admit nursing admissions.
She also applied TO everywhere but has a high gpa (4.67 weighted and high class rank and I think her recs must have been very good) as she has gotten into every honors college except Chapel Hill.
She sounds very similar to my daughter.
