“With the understanding that the choice of academic school you indicated is not binding, explain why you are applying to that particular school of study.”

What does the question imply exactly? Is it asking for an elaboration about the background of your proposed major? Slightly confused.

It seems like the question wants to know why you chose to apply to a particular program of study. For example, if you applied to a science-based school, you could discuss what first motivated you to study science. Like, what inspires you? And how does this relate to the school you’re applying to?
However, I’m sure that you could interpret it a bit differently depending on the situation and the school.
Best of luck!
