I believe many pre-meds have the lingering feeling of whether they truly want to be a doctor. After all, there are millions of wrong reasons that could be driving pre-meds to apply to med school. For instance, parent/peer pressure, money, prestige, etc. Some pre-meds aren’t sure if they will like to see patients, bear the various patient smells, etc. Is this a regular occurrence for pre-meds? Should these kinds of people simply forget about being a doctor?

Nothing in life is certain, but with such a large decision anyone would want to be as sure as possible about such a choice. I would bet that all pre-meds, all medical students, and all doctors at times question their choice at certain times in the process. But again the best thing to do is to become as certain as possible, utilizing opportunities available such as volunteering/shadowing and the like to be as comfortable with the decision as one is able.

“Should these kinds of people simply forget about being a doctor?”
Never. Unless, of course, you find out or decide that it is certainly not for you or that there is something that you’d like better.
