No, she was a first-year applicant. She didn’t visit UNCSA until after she was accepted; she and her dad flew down late April. It came down to UNCSA, Emerson, Ithaca and Chapman, and in the end, she felt the best fit at Emerson. She loved UNCSA facilities and dorms (and I liked the price) but she didn’t prefer the conservatory experience. But if Emerson didn’t up her scholarship at the very end, her runner-up was UNCSA.
Congratulations to your son!!! So exciting!
So happy for your son (and you!)! So exciting!!! I hope I can pop back in soon to let you all know that my daughter got in as well
Thanks everyone for the well wishes, very kind. My older son attends Ithaca - he started in Theatre Arts/Acting and switched to a BFA in Theatre Production and Design. Both of my kids are “artsy” and dyslexic/ADD. So it’s been a journey - let me know if anyone has questions about Ithaca, he’s very happy there.
So excited! My daughter received her invitation to interview March 2nd. Had no idea it was an all day thing! Did your kids feel the interviews went better than they expected? She’s nervous, but feels a bit better since they gave some pointers. What a nerve-wracking process, phew!
Yay!!! I have been checking all day to see if you updated! Congrats!! My daughter felt the interview wasn’t as bad as she expected but she really prepared for it. She thought the group assessment was an opportunity to really shine.
It is a full day rotating between interviews, tours of campus and film viewings. Lunch is served, Q&A session and group assessment. Please let us know if you or your daughter have specific questions. Happy to help answer what we can!
Hey there! I have an interview on March 2nd. I was wondering what the group assessment was like. I have heard that in previous years there was a writing prompt? Nervous but excited. This is my top choice, and I took a chance and already moved from WA to NC hoping to attend.
I did not see the assessment, but my daughter
said be prepared to work kindly, respectfully, and enthusiastically with strangers. Get to know the people in your group (interview/tour group) because those will be the people you do the assessment with.
Thank you!! I’m looking forward to it! Sounds fun.
Are there separate activities for parents?
Thank you for the pointers about the group assessment!
Parents can hang in ACE theater lobby during the interviews and assessments but can tag along during screenings, tour and Q&A. They have food laid out for breakfast and serve lunch. Some parents were there the entire time, some dropped kids off and came back.
Were the faculty interviewing the students the same ones that had already reviewed their portfolios?
That I am not 100% sure of. But the same ones that interview are assessing the group work.
My daughter will also be at the interview on March 2nd. I can’t believe how close it is. You guys have had to jump through a lot of hoops to get this far! We keep trying to guess what questions they’ll ask and how to keep nerves at bay ;-] This is my daughter’s 1st and only choice. Just wanted to pop on here and wish you luck next weekend!
Thank you so much! I have been trying to guess the questions they may ask as well. Definitely pretty nervous! I took a leap of faith moving all the way from Washington for this school; but like your daughter: this is my first and only choice! I wish her the best of luck next weekend as well.
My daughter will also be at the interview on March 2.
She’s interested in the animation concentration.
Is there any distinction between those who are interested in animation and those interested in film in the interviews?
Hi! Best wishes to your daughter on her interview! I hope all of the kids attending have a great time this weekend. To my understanding, there is nothing specific on the interview in regards to animation or any specialty. They may ask if they have a preference, but I saw no indication of anything different in the interview process for any concentration. They are all film program applicants. I got the impression that questions may have been to further qualify the application/portfolio submissions. Questions varied from all of the kids my daughter was chatting with. So my thought (totally unofficial) was that they wanted to build on or clarify any areas of question that they MAY have had in the application process.
How was interview day yesterday? I was there with my daughter (animation) and what a long day! My daughter had such nerves b/c she was in the first group of individual interviews. This is her first, and only, choice. Now, to wait…I hope it was a positive experience for you guys!
How did your daughter feel it went? Did they tell you how long before you hear on acceptances?
I thought it went very well! I was extremely nervous as well. I was the very first interview of the day for my set of interviewers. They were very nice, and it was much more relaxed and conversational than I expected.
I had fun with the group assessment too!
