I’m a high school student applying for UNCSA’s high school program, and I have a few questions about the application
- I have a strong passion for theatre, but haven’t had many opportunities to participate in productions due to my high school not having a theatre program. I’ve been involved in summer program Shakespeare productions (a few of which I’ve played notable roles in, such as Lady Macbeth in Macbeth and Rosalind in As You Like It). However, those program productions required money to be involved in, so I’m not sure if they look good/matter on an application. Besides a few middle school productions, there’s not much else that I can list when it comes to acting experience. Will this harm my chances?
- The high school program requires an ‘artistic statement.’ Reading through the instructions, they essentially want you to talk about your journey as an artist, and why you’re applying to UNCSA in particular. Looking at the example given for drama majors, I noticed that the example didn’t even mention goals or why the writer wanted to study at UNCSA, despite that being part of the criteria. I’m wondering if that’s just because the high school and college application criteria differ, or because I’m misinterpreting something. Am I mainly supposed to focus on my own personal journey, or should I spend more of the essay writing about my goals and hopes for UNCSA?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
