My daughter is very excited to be going to uncw in the fall, and when she was admitted she had applied for honors college, but has now changed her mind. Is there a way she can “decline” the acceptance into the honors college?

Yes, students can decline honors at any time before starting or at the end of a semester. Just contact the honors college if she decides to decline. If she decided to do departmental honors for her major later on, she will need at least a 3.2 gpa at the start of the project (it is through honors college but is for the major instead of university studies). Also, if she were to want to re-enter honors, she would need to reapply and have at least a 3.5 gpa upon completion of freshman year.

I am curious why she wants to decline. My daughter is in honors at UNC-CH and it really changed the experience for her Freshman year. Because of priority registration she got into a course normally not available until Junior or Senior year. The honors version of another course had extra class time and was more challenging. Her honors English course was taught at a much higher level than the standard course. The honors classes were smaller. Only a few of her courses were honors but for her it made a difference. Is it different ay UNCW?
