Hey everyone, I’m a junior and I have no idea where I necessarily should apply this upcoming fall. My main concern in a school is that it has an academic atmosphere. Ideally I’d like to attend Columbia, but for now I’ve realized that it’s a bit out of reach. My EC’s are a bit lacking and my class rank is a little low, which concerns me greatly about picking a school that I have a solid chance to get into. I only have 2 clubs, an internship at a Supreme Court office, and I’m volunteering at a hospital near me. My class rank is around the edge of the top 10%. In 9th grade I wasn’t in honors classes and felt really unchallenged by school, but when I had got put into honors classes the next year my GPA went from a 93ish to a 97 and it really had interested me in school. This year I’m taking AP English and AP US with some other honors classes, and next year I plan to take all the APs available to me. Anyway, I was curious if anyone could give me a rough estimation of where I should be applying. I’m really interested in a school with a strong academic atmosphere, I generally just love school. Assuming the SAT score I get is appropriate, would schools like NYU, Vassar, Hamilton, Trinity, or Holy Cross be out of reach? I live in New York and would generally prefer to stay in the Northeast area as I’m not a fan of heat. Thank you in advance to anyone taking the time to read or respond.
