Undecided major

Does NYU allow freshman to go in as undecided? If they do what school do you get put into?

yes, but u MUST specify a school…

then u go undecided in that school.

If you’re undecided you’ll generally go into CAS (College of Arts & Science). Stern also allows you to apply undecided if you want to do business but not sure which business major (First two years of Stern is mostly general business classes anyway)

NYU is one of the most flexible universities in terms of declaring major/what you want your major to be. One student at Gallatin once created a major called “evil” and was actually very successful and got into Law School. ( According to an admissions counselor)

You can apply undecided at any college in NYU. In fact, MANY students at NYU are undecided. You definitely will not be alone.

Actually that’s not true, I don’t want misinformation to spread. You can only be undecided in CAS + LSP, Stern, and Gallatin (though Gallatin kids usually know exactly what they want to do, that’s why they’re in Gallatin). You must declare your major in Tisch and Steinhardt and the other small schools at NYU only have one major (Nursing, Social Work, etc)

^ The lady at my tour ( her name was Crystal I think) told all of us something entirely different.

your best bet is to default and call the admissions office.

i know that when i applied to Steinhardt, i HAD to say WHICH program in Steinhardt i wanted, since all of them are so different.
