Undecided

I was looking through the Stats Only 2010 thread and noticed that not many people have been accepted who applied undecided. In fact, of the regular admission (not scholarship) acceptees, I counted only 3.

Assuming that Undecided (CLAS) is the most common “major” to put down, I was somewhat alarmed by this.

I would also assume that the largest “major” program that USC has (for freshmen) is the CLAS-Undecided one, just due to the sheer amount of freshmen that still don’t know what to do with their life.

So while there is likely to be the most competition for these “undecided” spots, they would also accept more students to this “major” right?

Realizing that CC is a VERY small sample of the 36,000 people who applied to USC, I still would like to know if anyone knows anything about the order decisions go out. Is there still hope for us “undecideds”?

idk if you counted me oxolojo but I applied undecided and was accepted last week. Dont know if that helps at all

On the “celebrate” thread, there are several reporting admission to undecided:

The 16% refers to the percent of the student body who are in that “major.”

@cdr777: I did count you. I saw the people that applied to CLAS as Undecided.

@alamemom: I saw the celebrate thread. However, the 3 people I counted were only people to apply to CLAS as Undecided, as opposed to Roski or Viterbi. I saw quite a few people who applied and got accepted to other schools, but not many to CLAS. Also, I only counted from the regular wave, not the scholarship wave, so anything after like, March 10th.

And I am surprised to read that only 16% are undecided!
Okay. I’m more frightened now. (:

Hi! I got in Undecided, into CLAS. I applied by the scholarship deadline though, and received the Dean’s Scholarship. Hope this somewhat qualms your fears, though I realize by now it’s past April 1st… best of luck whatever happens!

I have come to conclusion (maybe incorrectly) that undecided does not work in your favor. S applied viterbi undecided but was admitted for the Spring undecided CLAS. IMHO the admission counselors and comittee are looking for students that are fully committed to both USC and their chosen filed of study (surely can not blame them for that). If I am not mistaken there was only one person admitted to Viterbi undecide/undeclared and that was a scholarship candidate very early on.

Honestly, the theory has little value for the class of 2014 applicants- what is done is done-
The possible value is for future applicants

I got in as a spring admit and I put down undecided. And my test scores are low (25 ACT)
