INDIAN
I have a gpa of 3.64 if I use A=4, B=3, C=2.

This summer I am doing:

Operation Enterprise (American Management Association)
-Summer Program for a week at UCLA giving me college credit

TCU High School Investor Challenge
-investing program at TCU

Can anyone list some safties, matches and reaches for me? Location and stuff does not matter. Thanks :)

Hey…assuming 3.64 is your UNWEIGHTED…

Reaches
-Wharton (HUGE reach)
-NYU Stern
-USC Marshall
-U. of Michigan
-McGill U. Management?

Matches
-U of Maryland?
-Boston U
-U of Wisconsin?
-Indiana U?

Safeties
-Northeastern
-Babson
-Bentley
-Penn State U.?
-U. of Toronto

etc etc

"Standardized Tests: SAT I: Verbal: 540 Math: 650 Writing: 570 (10 on Essay)

ACT: 25 (11 on Essay)"

Don’t apply for Wharton, Stern, USC, Michigan…etc unless you improve your standardized test scores.

DO these college look at the English and Math part of the ACT or the Composite scores?

Also I used Princeton Reveiws Counselor-O-Matic and it said U Mich, Stern, USC, were matches…

I am planning on brig my ACT up to about 28…on the June 10 testing date.

Thanks for your help.

in reality, those are nowhere near matches with your current test scores… umich, stern, and USC all play the numbers game rather heavily… study study study for your SAT’s / ACT’s…take them BOTH over again…huge jumps will be hard to get but you have a chance cuz of your solid EC’s… but really you have no “Safeties” at this current time… the ones futurenyu student posted would be matches…you might be able to throw bu into there also…but a 3.6 uw isnt going to close doors…just be aware that it isnt an eye opener and it places more weight on your test scores…anyhow what do i know…im just an entering college frosh…im not an adcom…soo good luck with your search

Thanks…Do you know the poolicy with the ACT in the admissions process. Do they take the highest score per section or highest composite?

Luckily for you, UM doesn’t care much about test scores. It’s more important that you have a good GPA. And a 3.64 GPA is right around average for them. I wouldn’t say “forget about it”. They have a holistic review process and the first thing they look at is GPA. Write good essays, and you never know. I certainly wouldn’t say you have no chance, but make sure you have other safeties, like Indiana.

You will get into PSU and smeal in my opinion. You should definately apply to IU. OSU, MSU , and Arizona seem like schools you would get into. Same with UMD but you won’t get into smith because as far as I can tell there is a limit of a 1300 SAT score for LEP programs and business is one at UMD and the average SAT for smith is 1360 for freshmen. You could fairly easily transfer into smith with about a 3.2 during your first two years at UMD. You might get into UWisc. There are many schools you can go to and then transfer into the business school later. If you got into UWisc then you could transfer in later to the business school(they don’t even take freshmen). I don’t know much about the admissions into the business schools at arizona PSU, Babson, OSU or UF but I think you should get into the schools themselves if not the business programs. Try case western.

osu has a double admit policy unless you get into their honors program which requires a 29 / 1300… plus top 10%…now you already have a good enough rank…you just need the scores… yeah look into Case Western…weatherhead is excellent and the academic environment is really impressive… give BU a look too…thats actually where im going next year…its business program has been very nothing but positive for me soo far…anyhow good luck

I am taking the ACT this sat. I am prepping hard and hopefully I can bring it up.

Thanks for the Advice.

good luck…and dont worry…with your stats you’ll still get into a very solid school… soo this is only goin to raise the ceiling for you

any other schools?

Have you thought about SMU? It’s in Texas, and has an excellent business school (Cox is #20 according to BusinessWeek in undergrad business). I think you would get in.

I don’t know why you wouldn’t look at UT-Austin. It’s a safety for you (top 10%) and you can’t do much better than it in terms of a UG Business school. All that, and tuition is very low for you.

I have considered SMU and UT-Austin

The thing is that I am not sure if I can get into the BHP (Business Honors Program) at UT

Honors is not important enough to pass up on a top 5 B-School that is close to home and cheap. BHP is VERY tough to get into. And at nearly all the schools mentioned, you won’t be getting into their honors programs. Honors typically has a cutoff of 30 ACT or 1300 SAT for most midrange schools, with 3.8+ GPA.

so could I still be enrolled in at the business school in UT?

BHP had a cutoff this year of 1464 SAT and top 1.8% of the class. Yeah those statistics are as good as Wharton so don’t feel bad if you didn’t get in. As for the regular McCombs program I the cutoff is 5% I think so if you can increase you rank a bit first semester next year you should have a good chance.
