undergrad econ ta how competitive?

i applied for econ 1/3/100a ta for fall quarter, does anyone know how competitive it is to get the position? im an applied math and management science double major, will be a 3rd year in fall, have 3.7 overall gpa, 3.8 in man sci, 4.0 in math.

Pretty easy to get a position for credit the first go-around; it’s a lot more competitive to get hired as a TA for pay. Plenty of my friends and I got TA positions in the LD courses our first times applying, but only a handful of us got to TA 2+ times for pay.

what affects your ability to get the TA job the second time? do they look at ta reviews from the first time?

You need high TA evals and typically an A+ for the class you want to TA. If the department had it its way, it would only take first-timers so they wouldn’t have to pay out cash and just compensate the TAs with 195 credit. This is why there are so few 2+ timers TAing in the Econ department; the brunt of the work goes to undergrads doing it for credit and the graduate students needing to fulfill their assistantship requirements for their financial package.
