Undergrad Engineering Professors.

I am an International freshman and I am majoring in Mechanical engineering . I could not attend the summer orientation, therefore can you suggest some good professors who's classes would still have some seats. Should I register for the upper or lower division ?

I would try to get a degree plan from Cockrell's site. Its a guide and shows you all the courses you need to complete in order to graduate. You can only take lower division and pre-requisites courses as a freshman. Try to see what lower division courses you would be interested on taking your first semester, check out the professors(myedu.com), then wait until you speak to an advisor at orientation. I'm majoring in accounting and before I went for my orientation, I had all the courses aligned with the best professors for the fall. After the meeting with my advisor, my schedule looked completely different. None of the courses I had lined up to take were on my schedule because many of them required a pre-requisite or were advised against taking.

I tried looking for one on Cockrell's site and found this: http://www.me.utexas.edu/undergrad/flow_chart.pdf

Check out this site as well and choose which specialization of ME you would like to go in: http://www.engr.utexas.edu/undergraduate/programs/319-me

Good luck.

As far as I recall, orientation sessions do not tell you who are the "good profs" unless they've changed things, but alas I am an old fart.

You can only register for upper division classes if you have credit for the lower division classes (unless there are no prereqs). Since you're a freshman I assume you will not be coming in with any credit for courses for ME, thus you must sign up for the lower division classes.

As to reviews for professors: You can find students' comments on the course load, homework, exams etc at any of the following:

ratemyprof, myedu or https://diia.webhost.utexas.edu/cis/results/

^ They still don't tell us any good professors, but they tell you what classes to basically take. I was looking at myedu while I was waiting in line for my ID card 30 minutes before registration opened lol.

What do you mean by good professors?

Those websites list the comments of students who have taken their classes with info on courseload, homework, tests and overall percentage of A's, B's, C's etc given out in the class.

Is that not info that you would look at for a good prof? You can look for info by searching either for the course number or the prof who teaches it.

PS MyEdu is paid....is that why you're not seeing any info?

Oh no, your sites are great tools to find good professors. I was talking about the orientation sessions and them not giving out names of good professors, which I can see why. I paid for myedu and would be lost without it.

Will all the good profs be taken since I didn't go for the summer orientation?

^ Yep. You can always wait until classes start, though. A lot of people will add/drop/change their schedules...

A lot of proffs are not there in ratemyprofs.com

They are on myedu and the CIS https://web.austin.utexas.edu/diia/cis/results/

^ Which I said already. Oy gevalt.

Lol. I must have missed your post lol. Sorry xD

I visited https://diia.webhost.utexas.edu/cis/results/
But it says->"Active UT Status is required to access this site. "

Yeah you have to have a UT EID. You get this when you apply for admissions.

I am admitted and I have a UT EID.

You probably haven't upgraded your UT EID yet. Have you gone to orientation?

Nope, I am an international student . I am going for the fall orientation.

Yeah, you need an updgraded UT EID before you can have full access to UT Direct.

Have you signed up for any classes?

I think we can sign up only after registration.
