Your profile matches that for Clarkson, which would make it a natural place to look into. The school is described in some detail in a USA Today article, “The Top 10 Engineering Colleges in the U.S.”
Run the Supermatch tool on the left side of this page.
Clarkson was mentioned and I’ll add Manhattan College.
Merc81 likes to recommend Clarkson, and it’s certainly a fine school, but how can anyone make any recommendation based on such little info?
What size, location, activities, vibe, etc. do you seek? Most importantly, what is your budget?
@Chardo: What I took the time to do was look at the OP’s GPA (3.7), match it to a school known for a focus on engineering (Clarkson), and then convert his ACT score of 26 to an SAT equivalent (1190, by concordance), which also matches Clarkson’s middle range (1190-1290) perfectly (USNWR). I do not “like” to recommend Clarkson more than any other school unless it is suitable for a student’s interests. In some cases, this will be true, to a greater or lesser extent, for consecutive OPs.
The big question when it comes to college selection is: what are your cost constraints?
Talk to your parents about that and try some net price calculators on colleges you may be interested in before you make your application list.
Ok, but what if OP lives out west, wants a big school, warm weather, and has a certain budget? Clarkson is one of hundreds of schools that check the box academically. There is no way to know if it’s really recommendable without more info.
Re #8, the OP can move on quickly from an unsuitable recommendation. Beyond that, I suggested Clarkson partially on the basis of a USA Today article that includes only 10 schools. If the OP is interested in all potential schools without detailed screening or opinion, then this site provides a SuperMatch feature for that purpose.
I live on the east coast and am pretty much restricted only that cost including room and board cant go over 45k but location and size does not matter
So, schools with engineering that cost under 45k. There are hundreds.
Help us narrow this down a bit. What is your home state? Do you prefer to stay reasonably close, or do you want to go far away? What are your likes/dislikes (sports, snow, greek life, etc.)? How would you describe your personality?
Home state of nj and am will to go aS far north as Vermont and and down to like south carolina. As far aS going west Illinois is the absolute farthest but would prefer closer
^ Good. And the other questions?
Will you be starting your list with Rutgers and other NJ publics that have your major?
Everything else doesn’t really matter I create a good atmosphere around me in most situations
Well, you probably want to start with Rutgers, NJIT, TCNJ, and Rowan, since these should be easily under your price limit as a NJ resident.
Do you have any other preferences besides engineering major (what kind of engineering), region/distance, and net price < $45,000 per year?
Your ACT is too low for Rutgers and TCNJ. It’s borderline for Rowan.
I would venture that it’s too low for engineering altogether. At least it indicates likelihood of struggling with the major.
The OP scored at the 95th percentile in the key (in terms of engineering) math section of the ACT.
