There is some debate on how receptive medical schools are toward vocational majors like business, accounting, marketing, etc. In terms of statistics, individuals with “Other” majors (Business and engineering among others) don’t do as well on the MCAT as do biological science majors, physical sciences majors, humanities majors, social science majors or math/statisics majors.

In fact the only group that scores lower on the MCAT than Other majors are specialized health science majors (nursing, exercise science, nutrition, etc).

Does this mean you can’t major in nursing or business and still score well on the MCAT? Of course not, but it does show a trend you need to be aware of.

If you’re looking for a major that has better employment prospects than biology or chemistry, a number of people recommend economics or math/statistics.
