genuine BS degrees that marry design (like product design and not architecture) and math are hard to find. Engineering schools will do the engineering core/ ABET accredition but fall short on design and vice versa for college of design(s). A few come to mind that do a fantastic job: CMU, Georgia Tech, U Minnesota and perhaps UIUC. Any more pls?
Not my area but you mean like this??
Not math per se but there’s an engineering and design course at Boulder.
What kind of design?
ABET accredited engineering majors will include significant engineering design course work.
The dual degree program at Brown/RISD would have to qualify.
Even without the dual degree program, the 2 schools have cross registration, so it would be an interesting conversation to have with them as to what can be accomplished even without the dual degree program.
Design engineering to be more specific. Too many shades here :HCDE (human center design engineering; not yet ABET accredited); college of design; or engineering schools under industrial design. A very new field that combines design insights but you need to have the structural background—new , thus in a flux
None yet have been ABET. ?UWash is trying and so is UMich Dearborn. If you get ABET, you got to give up on design etc.
If you look on ABET’s web site, go to program search and type design into the box, you’ll see a few programs. As far as I know, there is no pre existing ABET set of criteria for design engineering, so they are accredited under other engineering criteria.
For example
- CU Boulder, Integrated Design Engineering
- Rose Hulman, Engineering Design
All ABET accredited engineering majors include course work in engineering design.
In addition to the engineering design included in any accredited degree program, and accredited programs with “design” in the title like the few listed on ABET’s web site, there are also many “general engineering” programs that can be customized to a student’s interests.
Do you have an interest in user experience (UX) design, or product design more broadly?
Product design..
Might have to add math as a minor ..
