Undergrad Studies

If you attend a lesser known school…will that have a major impact on your chances of getting into a top law school? like…is a 3.5 GPA and 160 LSAT at University of Florida going to mean more to the Yale Law admissions than the same scores from the University of Wyoming or whatever school.

Both sets of applicants will be rejected in your hypothetical.

Not what i was looking for but ok…let me re-do the question…2 applicants apply to Yale Law with qualifying GPA and LSAT and they are both identical in every way except where they went to study for undergrad…will there school name have a major impact on there chances of admission? Will the person with the bigger named school get the nod over lesser-knowned all the time?

The vast majority of identical applicants will either both be admitted or both be rejected. There are very few situations where two applicants will be competing for that final spot.

Even in that situation, school name would not be the most important factor. The committee would look at essays, letters of recommendation, and extracurricular/work experience. After those things, school name might well make a difference at Yale.

There would not, however, be any difference between the University of Florida and any other state school in the country.

It probably wouldn’t at any other law school.
