Undergraduate degree and Graduate School

I’m currently a 3rd year in my last year of college, and I’m a political science major. I was planning on getting some work experience and going to graduate school for international relations, but I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately and I was wondering if it was possible for me to, say, go to graduate school for a program in mechanical engineering. That’s always been a subject I’ve liked, and political science has lost its luster to me. I don’t have any experience or classes for mech E though. So my question is, would it be possible?

Contact mechanical engineering grad programs and ask them what you need to do to be considered a good applicant.

It would be possible only if you found a way to take the requisite courses before applying. Graduate school is not an introduction to a field; it is specialization. Go to web sites to see what you need to take. Courses will include math, physics, and engineering.

Without having taken the courses, you can only say you like the idea of mechanical engineering, not mechanical engineering itself.
