I know tons of people who didn’t think college was the right choice for them (not that they couldn’t get in or succeed in college, they just decided against it), I don’t see them any differently from a college grad or student. Some of them are doing well for themselves, some of them not so much, but the idea that everybody needs to go to college is what’s making a bachelor’s degree so much less meaningful than it used to be.

That’s most of the people on CC.

So true! I guess I’m uneducated.

You’re not uneducated if you don’t have a bachelor’s degree. You don’t need a college degree to be happy. I know a LOT of people who don’t have college degrees that are millionaires or are close to it. They come from a different time period though when college was more of a luxury. Even now you’re still not uneducated if you don’t have a college degree, people can find a job they like, enjoy, or make a lot of money in without a piece of paper that says they’ve spent four years of their life studying.

Forget a Bachelor’s degree, as long as they’ve got the reading, writing, 'rithmetic down, they’re all set to go! Throw in sense of humor, interesting personality and kindness, and you’ve got a friend

1/4 Americans has a college degree. Do yourself a favor and don’t limit yourself to a quarter of the population out of disdain. i’m pursuing a professional doctorate or master’s, I sure as hell don’t think that makes anyone better. I couldn’t do a carpenter’s job, he couldn’t do my future job…good thing people learn different crafts.

It’s pretty funny you spelled “people” wrong in the thread title…normally i’d ignore it, but now it’s just funny :D

Peoles who have a degree will statistically make more money over their lifetimes than peoles who don’t. So if money is the measuring stick, then yeah, you’ll think less of someone who doesn’t have the degree.

Personally, as a wise man once said in a different context, I prefer to judge people by the content of their character. :)

My son’s club soccer coaches are both gentlemen of a certain age, both from very poor family backgrounds, both from Wales. Neither made it past 8th grade. They are two of the finest, brightest, most worldly men I have ever met. Both read extensively. At one of out town tournament, one of the coaches walked through the lobby of the hotel where my son was icing his ankle while reading Ovid for his AP Latin class–the coach sat down and talked Ovid with him and helped him develop his paper.

Don’t look down on people for their own outlooks on life! People have different situations, goals, and philosophies. Maybe some people just don’t find college to be a necessity; surely, you don’t know what’s good for them and what’s not. The notion that people that don’t have a college degree are dumb is very elitest. I know plenty of normal people who aren’t going to huge universities. Some are even smarter and wiser than those sheltered people who studied throughout high school/hung out with safe crowds that got into prestigous places.

Yeah, honestly I don’t think a Bachelor’s degree makes you an intelligent person. It’s more of what you do outside of your career/job and schooling that makes you an intelligent person. I’ve met some people that don’t have a college degree that I’ve had wonderful conversations about interesting and meaningful things, while I’ve sat down with college educated people that just couldn’t really talk about but their careers/jobs.

Bill Gates.

Well Gates attended Harvard, so he’s doesn’t really count. And if he did, he’s the black sheep
