i just met 3 people during a fire drill, fun stuff. what’s a way to meet people that you didn’t anticipate being a way to meet people?

well, define “meet.” Is it only a casual, one-time meet, where you’ll probably never see them again? (and if you do, it might ignite some awkwardness?)

Definitely those awkward conversations in the elevator at the beginning of the school year. And I also remember those awkward conversations while we were all waiting in line for various beginning of the year events

^ahh I hate awkward conversations. It feels so awkward to have awkward conversations; but it’s more awkward to have no conversations whatsoever and ignore people beside me. :(

So what do we do about them? hahaha

^^oh, great, I can totally see myself getting into those situations in a few weeks.
Especially the elevator or waiting for a presentation or something. I tend to be the one awkwardly sitting or standing next to other people, wishing that I was outgoing enough to start a conversation.
But when I do try to start a conversation it’s awkward anyway, soooo. Fun.

^^ Ditto (:

The Stairmaster and treadmill can be good meeting spots. It’s usually pretty easy to tell whether your “neighbors” on adjacent equipment are into their music or books or if, instead, they’re looking for distracting conversation. Even if your “captive audience” is only interested in a 20-minute chat and not a long-term relationship, this can still be a good way to make connections and also to help you make a regular commitment to a work-out.

i brought a huge umbrella to campus. I meet tons of people whenever it was raining. Still friends w a few too.

^I like the umbrella!

I have a great one…I met my boyfriend* one spring night when we were all out watching the STREAKERS cross campus. Fun times. Made for a good story, too.

(Not the guy I married, but still.)

Aww, LoggyW is finally going away to college :P

Yeah, out of my 3 closest college friends, this is how I met each:
- we had to dissect a really gross creature in lab together and realized we were the only ones there who like that stuff
- in a really boring class, the guy next to me struck up a conversation about something completely random, the class was so boring that he was fascinating in comparison
- we each got kicked out of the same place in the library during a security search and had to sit in the hall together for 10 mins while security searched our stuff (something sketchy had happened). Ended up becoming good friends

This was all like the first 2 weeks of freshmen year btw
