Unfair admission practices!!

To FSU applicants, past and present:

Have you had the experience of applying out of state to FSU, only to have your application cancelled, WITH NO WARNING, due to “bogus” reasons?

Most institutions revel in the notion that their admission process is top-secret but public institutions should not be allowed to hide biased practices behind a process shrouded in secrecy. Preliminary evidence shows that FSU uses arbitrary cancellations to whittle down their applications rather than review them.

I have two examples of unfair treatment. If you are interested in details, feel free to contact me. I am writing an op-ed for the newspaper and I would like to have more examples. I would like to reference your specific experience with the FSU Admissions staff and if necessary, I can change your name if anonymity is a concern.

My school counselor and I are shocked by recent unceremonious cancellations and we look forward to exposing the practice to future applicants but we need your assistance.

You have posted this FOUR TIMES on four different threads. My comments on another thread:

FSU can do what it wants with OOS applications. They are mandated by state law to accept 90% or more instate student—or something to that effect, and do not have to be transparent when it comes to OOS or even instate for that matter.

Lots of admissions decisions are arbitrary, and my guess is that if you know someone, even in this day and age, you can get in IF you meet minimum requirements. OOS admission to FSU is tough. Students have had applications cancelled for all sorts of reasons. Some find out that they never paid the admission fee. That is rather common. Some do not meet minimum criteria for SAT. Some have a conduct issue on their official record, or a counselor rec contained info that caused the application to not be considered.

Good luck to you. I doubt you will uncover much.

If you are applying OOS, you might as well consider yourself applying to a private institution as FSU has no obligation to you as a tax payer.
