Unhappy--the 2% Charles Schwab CC is being d/c'd

Thanks for the update on FIA options. Think I may just cancel altogether as I have quite a few other cards. Maybe will get a Capitol One card, as we MAY travel abroad in a while. Time will tell!

I just applied & qualified for the United explorer card. That will save us on luggage fees because H INSISTS on always checking our bags instead of carrying them on the plane. It will be good to get it in time for our trip where we have 3 legs & it would otherwise cost us about $150 in luggage fees alone! Since I fly more than him, I decided I should get the card rather than him.

Anyone use Chase? We have the Chase Amazon Visa card and the point system allows you to pay your cc bill with points or use your points to buy on Amazon. Three points for Amazon purchases and 1 point for non Amazon purchases. For me that’s like cash back, lol. We have been happy with their service and so just ordered the Sapphire card for travel (no overseas fee and lots of points back for travel). Love the Amazon Visa, tho. And customer service has been quite good.

We got a mailing yesterday from Wells Fargo on a no annual fee Visa called the Wells Fargo Cash Back card. 2% back on groceries, drugstores, and gas stations for 12 months. 1% back on everything else (no 12 month limit). I have a different Wells card, but may apply for this one as well.

The card offer was actually addressed to D (she and I have a joint account there that has several thousand dollars in it). I may have her apply, too, as a no-fee card offer with cash back doesn’t come to a 21 year old very often.

Thoughts on Capitol One, I was rejected when I applied for a card there a couple of years ago. Stunned me, as my credit is spotless, and income history is steady and fairly high. If they rejected me, who ARE they giving cards to? I asked for an explanation, and it turns out that they don’t like the balloon mortgage on my house. I am not “paying the balance down fast enough” to satisfy them, although I am paying within the terms of the loan and am on track to have my entire mortgage paid off well before I retire (even with the balloon). Grrr…

And I have had horrific customer experiences with Chase over the past two years on some mortgages for an estate I am involved with – it is like being stuck in a Kafka novel. I wouldn’t do any more business with them if they were the last bank on earth. It is not the credit card division that has caused me issues, but I’m just not putting one dime into their pocket, ever.

Yea, we’re contemplating the Chase sapphire card because it give 50,000 points that can be redeemed for $500 in cash or rewards said to be worth up to $625 + 7% of another $35. Not sure about it, but am contemplating it. Have had OK customer service with them but know my brother had a very bad time with them. The way I look at it, they will be giving me money, even if I/we cancel the card after we get our points/$$$. Plan to cancel it before the $95 annual fee kicks in the 2nd year anyway. Maybe I’ll sign up for it or maybe will get H to sign up for it. He’s OK with it, especially since I told him the CSchwab card won’t be available at all soon, so both of us have to find a card we DO like.

Bringing up this old thread for a question about FIA 529 credit card from American Express. I have been using this credit card for purchases and college tuition to save for D2’s college expense. However, Nov 4th(finally caught up with my regular mail) Fidelity sent a notice to state that the equity account was liquidated. I checked online and it seems to be moving to a TIAA-CREF account. I never received anything from TIAA-CREF. Does anybody know the reason why Fidelity liquidated the equity account and moved to TIAA-CREF? I tried to call in but Fidelity is not open Saturday.

DH and I both got Citibank mastercards back in grad school. Have had them (gulp) 25 years now. They never charged us a fee. Ever. The credit limit is ridiculous and not something we’d ever make use of. But the good thing is that both cards give Thank you points which we can use on expedia for travel. And the longevity of the accounts has come in handy. During our recent relocation I inadvertently missed a payment and I just called them up and they said “no problem” and canceled the interest and late fee. We also have debits and an AmEx but these cards just work well for us. Our checking is at a credit union that we’ve been with for 20 years. Same deal – no fees, interest bearing, easy to transfer funds to money market, CDs, kids’ accounts. Free checks. Always friendly.

Thanks, 2cents. There was a nerdwallet.com link on there to changes in Costco’s Amex. It looks like restuarant points may have dropped a bit and I never realized there is a 60 gallon limit on gas cash back per month. I’m sure H and I go through more than 60 gallons each month.

toledo, here is the official Amex link with the current perks. It looks like dining rewards went down to 2% from 3%, but… it looks like there is no limit on how much one can charge.

[Costco American Express Card](http://www304.americanexpress.com/getthecard/learn-about/Costco-TrueEarnings/28000)

Oh, sorry, I meant we spend over $3,000 per year on gasoline. Nerdwallet just estimated that at around 60 gallons per month. Maximizing these credit card perks is really tricky.

toledo, you will still get 1% back on your gas purchases after the first $3000. I think there is a business Costco Amex that does not cap the gasoline purchases (or at least there used to be when we signed up for our cards). At the current local prices, $3000 is about 70 gallons per month, which is way more than we buy.

My H, alone, believes he buys 90 gallons per month at Costco. That what happens when you have a 40 minute work commute and live near a Costco. I have a Mastercard with a 2% cash back reward on gas, and I don’t have to buy at Costco.

The costco 3% applies to gas purchased at other gas stations as well, not just at Costco, but they do exclude competitors such as Sams club. I’m not saying that this is the perfect card for everyone, but for us it works great. We get 5% back on gas (3% Amex plus 2% executive membership) purchased at Costco, and do not have to carry extra credit cards. I’m posting this not becuse I want to convince anyone to buy gas at Costco but to clarify the not so complete information posted on the website referenced by Toledo.
