Unified Auditions 2009

[NOTE to Moderator: I know that there was an earlier thread about the 2009 Unifieds, but I thought it made more sense to start a new one with the correct information. Readers can do a search on “unified” to find other posts about the Unified Auditions.]

Here is the information for the 2009 Unified Auditions:

January 31 and February 1 in New York
American Management Association
(adjacent to the Crowne Plaza Hotel)

February 2, 3 & 4 in Chicago
Palmer House

February 5 in Las Vegas
Las Vegas Academy of International Studies, Performing and Visual Arts

February 7 & 8 in Los Angeles

*Our group rate is now available for families booking rooms at the LAX Hilton. Ask for the “Family Rate with Unified Auditions” when you call for reservations. The rate for those rooms will be $120.00 per night plus taxes and incidentals. This is the first and only hotel to offer perks for our families.

We’re pleased to announce that four new schools have joined this year: Ball State University, Lindenwood University, Montclair State University, and Texas Christian University.

The universities listed conduct simultaneous auditions and interviews for entry into their theatre programs. If you are interested, please apply directly to the institutions.

PLEASE NOTE: Many but not all of these schools offer a BFA in Musical Theatre. All of these schools offer a BFA in Acting or the equivalent, and many also offer BFA degrees in design and technology, stage management, and so on.

We apologize that our website–[Unified Auditions](http://www.unifiedauditions.com)–is down at the moment. But all of the critical information is included in this post.

:)

I’m really happy to see Montclair and Ball State on the Unified list :)

Thanks, Doctorjohn for posting this so promptly since the website is currently down for Unifieds. This information is beneficial for those who want to start planning ahead.

Thanks doctorjohn. We have been checking daily to see if the website has been updated!

no Carnegie Mellon???

wow…

Forgive a volley of stupid questions, but do the kids audition at Unifieds in Junior or Senior year?
And do you audition individually or for everyone at once? Singing and acting auditions separate, or do you do your scene/scenes, then whip out your sheet music?
Thanks!

Usually audition during your senior year. The NYC, Chicago and LA Unifieds are individual auditions, whereas the Vegas Unifieds have historically been one audition in front of all schools. Singing and acting auditions are typically done consecutively

Why “wow”? As far as I know CMU, like several others, has never participated in Unifieds. They do, however, usually hold regional auditions at the same time as Unifieds, in some of the same cities. Tisch and others do the same.

CMU and a bunch of other schools are not officially part of the Unifieds, but they do hold auditions on the same dates in the same cities. That apparently varies from year to year, though. For instance, Juilliard for some reason decided to do theirs on different dates my senior year.

Chicago is the “big one” where the most schools show up. Let’s see if I can find it … YEEESS!!! Here is a link to the ones that were in Chicago my senior year … http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/397064-post154.html</a>

The thing to do is look at the audition info pages on the websites of the schools that interest you and see if they hold auditions on the same dates in the same cities as the Unified schools.

LOL @ crossposting with alwaysamom while I was looking for that link. :)

datripp:

For more information about the Unified Auditions, you can go up one level, and type the word “unified” in the “Search this Forum” box. It will bring up dozens of threads.

One of the most useful is this lengthy one from last fall:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/376282-unifieds-2008-question.html?highlight=unified</a></p>

Hope this helps.

Here’s a pragmatic question about unifieds vs. on campus auditions. It appears that the unified auditions for MT include only voice and acting while the on campus auditions almost always include a dance audition. Accordingly, if dance is a strength, aren’t you better off auditioning on campus? In any event, I find the discrepancy, if true, to be strange.

Does anyone know what the rate is at the Palmer House Hilton Chicago?

Boston Conservatory does not, to my knowledge, offer a BFA in acting. They offer only a BFA in Musical Theatre.

I’m confused by the posts that say that CMU never participates in the Unifieds -? They were definitely at the February 2007 Chicago Unifieds at the Palmer House.

MTMama, as fishbowlfreshman and I both said, CMU and other schools are not part of the Unified auditions but they do hold regional auditions in some of the same cities at the same time as Unifieds.

MTMama

Last year, in one of the Unified threads, Dr John posted a list of schools that are not officially a part of Unifieds but hold their auditions at the same time and in the same place. There are quite a few of them.

AZKMom, I was wondering if you could post the link to this? I searched for it and came back with nothing :(

freedom, here you go. Scroll to post #48.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/376282-unifieds-2008-question-3.html#post4572414</a></p>

Ohhhh I seeee, thank you = )

I got a little confused because I saw both CMU and BoCo at unifieds this past year at the Palmer.

Gosh that was so much fuuuun… sigh I miss it…

Thanks alwaysamom; that was exactly the post to which I was referring!!

Aces, I too am a little nostalgic thinking back on where my S and I were last year at this time. It was a really special year and I loved our time at Unifieds in Chicago (except for trying to get home in one of the MANY snowstorms we had this past winter). Both my S’s acceptances came from Unified auditions.

Now, it’s a whole new adventure; trying to rearrange a schedule, can he take private voice lessons even though he’s a BFA acting major, getting Financial Aid & loans in order, planning a move from Wisconsin to Philadelphia, etc.

Best of luck to all of you Class of 2009!! Enjoy the ride!!!
