Union College Early Action for Fall 2025 Admission

Oh wow! Already out?
Deferred is not rejection. There is still hope.

They’re not officially out till 7, but Union put the form to sign up for RD or ED2 on my checklist already. I’m going through my application right now, I don’t know what I did wrong, I have even more competitive schools on my list in RD.

I’m sorry to hear this. A deferral will be heartbreaking here if we get that. That said, we don’t have that stuff on the checklist, so I have fingers crossed.

C25 refuses to check portal until they get an email…ugh.

S25 is in! And with a full tuition grant! We are crying.

In as well with $36k. And they will make it $40k if commit by Feb 20. Ugh…another pressure decision. Union was top choice but C25 does not want to decide yet. We loved Union so I guess there will be lots of discussions.

D25 thrilled to get an acceptance - her first! We were so impressed with the open house and everything we’ve heard from current students and their families. Feeling very fortunate. Hope everyone who didn’t get good news this time gets some soon from another school.

S25 in with $36K plus the $4K ā€œAct NOW!ā€ bonus. We’re not going to be able to decide that fast because he’s never been there (and I think regardless he’d want to wait until he hears from the UCs.) But it’s exciting nonetheless, and we’re trying to sort out a February trip there.

By student survey results, Union’s science facilities placed second in the nation:

We are also talking about a Feb trip. The question is doing the 17th on their ā€œadmitted student dayā€ or doing one of the Monday or Friday go to class and lunch with a student things. I don’t want to give up the 16k, but we want to hear from Dickinson so it’s hard to say to commit before the act now deadline. And then there’s the 3rd/4th choice schools which are still significantly less. But super excited about Union nonetheless.

Okay, i’m full of love for Union but I’ve gotta say…what’s the students’ counterfactual? Have they seen all the other science lab facilities? I guess what this is saying is that Union students feel really positive about their campus. That’s encouraging!

I concur that Princeton Review survey results arrive with inherent limitations. However, with respect to this particular survey, I believe Union students fairly recognized the impressive attributes of its science facilities. For a visual perspective, this shows the interior of Union’s new science and engineering building:

Union’s appealing geosciences facilities and collections remain, I believe, where they had been, which further reflects the scope of Union’s science facilities generally.

We’re not gonna make it there until later in the week (starting out at Pitt). FYI, I’ve heard good things about Simone’s Kitchen (middle-eastern, hole in the wall/takeout) and Perreca’s Bakery (Italian bread and soups and things), in case you’re looking for good dining options.

How was the visit?

We the parents loved it. Our son thought it was fine but I think decided he’d prefer a larger school. It doesn’t help that none of his friends in California had heard of Union.

Thanks for the feedback. Was the surrounding city okay? We’ve heard of it because one of my daughter’s teachers went there and had a really great experience.
