Unique Grad Party Touches

Tis the season. :)

Granted, I am not the most seasoned grad party attendee. Our own party for S is in 2 weeks. Just wondering what “touches”- decoration-wise, food-wise, activity-wise, etc. you have seen this season or past that caught your eye.

Yesterday we attended a party for a friend and S’s fellow tennis teammate. “Centerpiece” on each table included a tennis racket placed in the middle with wrapped candy on the face of the racket and a couple of balloons tied to the racket - the racket being the anchor. Cute. :)

Some of the people from the “older” generation(s) brought their high school graduation pictures to my d’s grad party.

That was fun!

I used lightweight photo collage strips (I got mine at Michaels but you can find them just about anywhere) filled with candid pics of my D from birth to present as centerpieces. After the party we took the pics out and gave the strips to her good friends filled with pics of D and each friend together to bring with them to their respective dorms.

A party I went to over the weekend featured pictures of the young men together as pre-school classmates and cub scouts - adorable!

Another popular choice here is bowls of the custom M&Ms with baby/present pics of the grad on them…

M and M’s with a picture on them!? Never heard/seen that before!

I just wasn’t even thinking of centerpieces and such! I’m going to be thrilled to get the two scrapbooks were are working on to put out for viewing finished!!!

This probably is nothing new, but I thought cute. Yesterday’s party had simple frosted sugar cookies decorated in the college colors and initials that the young man will be attending.

One thing we did for both kids when they graduationed from high school was get the Dr Seuess book, “Oh the Places You’ll Go”.

We used it as a “sign-in” for everyone who attended the party to write a little something in the margins, etc. It was UNBELIEVABLE how many people were really creative with their little ditties. Some comments were really heartfelt & touching, others funny, some just signed their names. But at the end of the party, both kids have souvenirs of that day which turned out to be the best of many little touches we had at the party.

By the way, there are many threads on this forum about grad parties. Suggest you do a search and you will likely be overwhelmed with interesting and creative ideas!!
PS I think I got that idea back in 2004 from this very forum!

Made some cute mortarboard treats from upside down mini peanut butter cups. Glued (with chocolate frosting) on a Keeblers chocolate covered graham cracker. Glued on a tassle made of a section of fruit roll up cut with slits.

I like the root beer float idea on that ^^ webpage. It suggests freezing ice cream in cups the night before so all you have to do is add rootbeer and a straw. Like it if I can figure out how to keep the cups of ice cream cold - do you think a cooler w/ice would keep a supply frozen enough??? Of course we would just replenish.

I have a hard time keeping menu items down to a few - ahhg! I’m the product of a family who ALWAYS has way too much food on the table at gatherings! I keep telling myself, streamline, streamline…
