TAKE ME BECAUSE:
I am a scholar, an academic. However, I have always wanted to be a military officer. This passion drove me to find my school myself and to find a way to pay for it. I can fit in academically at Columbia, but that’s not why they should take me. They want to build ROTC, and I will hands-down join, regardless of where I end up going. Columbia also wants to try and be characterized as less liberal pacifist (they’ve admitted more veterans in the past 2 years than any other Ivy) and I offer intellectual diversity. I believe that I could make a positive impact on Columbia by going and building ROTC. I want to be like Gen. Petraeus: a scholar and Infantry officer. Columbia strives for diversity of mindset, and I think I deliver

NOTE: I am also looking into applying Harvard, Princeton, Dartmouth. I will, however, apply early to one.

I’m no expert, but judging by the specific passions you’ve developed, it’s probably what top colleges look for. instead of random ECs, you’ve chosen what you love and done really well. best of luck

I think it looks great. Military (and especially the scholarship) will go a long way. Only thing I could add is to take Subject Tests and AP Calc if your school has it. AP Econ (macro or micro) is fairly easy, so you could learn it on your own and take the exam when the time comes. That would make it easier to take Calc in school. If you really need to take it depends on what you want to do, however. Chance me back if you can! I’m the wing commander at an AFJROTC in FL :)

You are a really strong applicant. The only possible weaknesses I see are your B+'s, lack of AP Calc, lack of Subject Tests, and 33 on math ACT… but I don’t see any of these being a large factor. I think you have a really good chance.
What exactly is a varsity “letter”?

Just an update:

I have just received a cumulative GPA: 3.9 Unweighted. The B+s were for less than a term.

In addition, I will be taking Math II, Literature, US History, and Latin subject tests in May and June
