Unique Offerings of the Undergrad Business program??

We all know that Columbia is renowned for its engineering but I was wondering if its business program had any noticeable assets. renowned professors? Competition record or any specific program high points.

Im just wondering

Columbia doesn’t have an undergrad business program.

Columbia’s business school is strictly graduate level - did you mean that? you can always do economics or arts and then go to business graduate school. MBA programs are open to all students with any degree.

I’m sorry I got confused while I was typing. I mean ‘economics undergrad’…from what I can gather online it doesnt seem to be all that spectacular (aside from the ivy name).

It almost seems like NYU has a better undergrad business.

Columbia economics was historically in the top 5
After 1968, it fell out of the top 5 into the top 10
It is currently tied with Berkeley/Yale for 6#

With that said— evaluate this trend:

olumbia faculty awarded the Nobel Prize in the last 12 years:[73]
Faculty Affiliation at Columbia Nobel Prize
Orhan Pamuk Committee on Global Thought Literature, 2006
Edmund S. Phelps Dept. of Economics Economics, 2006
Robert H. Grubbs Dept. of Chemistry Chemistry, 2005
Richard Axel Center for Neurobiology & Behavior Physiology/Medicine, 2004
Joseph Stiglitz Dept. of Economics Economics, 2001
Horst L. Stormer Dept. of Physics Physics, 1998
Eric Kandel Center for Neurobiology & Behavior Physiology/Medicine, 2000
Robert Mundell Dept. of Economics Economics, 1999
William S. Vickrey Dept. of Economics Economics, 1996

Columbia is now tied with the University of Chicago for the most Nobel Economics Laureates in the world. IN addition to having the most affiliated Nobel Laureates, Columbia has also graduated the most Nobel Laureates IN THE WORLD.

Refer to this article about Columbia’s Economics Department: http://nymag.com/nymetro/urban/education/features/14642/

Also… go on Ibankingoasis.com and search “SA Undergrad”. You will see that Columbia’s name for Wall-Street is only second to Harvard, PRinceton, Wharton but beats NYU Stern by miles.

Can you provide the ranking source which states Columbia’s economics department is #6. I’ve typically seen CU ranked anywhere from 9 to 12.

Also, can you provide the number of Nobel laureates who currently teach or conduct research at the university (as opposed to the number who have any connection at any time with Columbia). I think the “current” number is more relevant. If you have a current number for all of the top schools, that’d be even better.

Thanks.

Just from the list above there are currently AT LEAST 8 Nobel Laureates currently teaching at Columbia (1 of them died a couple of years ago) along with superstars like Jeffrey Sachs and Sunil Gulati (who haven’t won Nobels— yet).

For columbia as tied with Berkeley & Yale, refer to the article link i posted before.

red&blue, can you tell me how many Nobel Laureates are associated with Penn or and are currently lecturing there? And I know Columbia only had 3 presidents associated with it— both roosevelts and eisenhower, how many did Penn have? Oh and how many of the Richest 25 Americans hold penn degrees? Columbia seems to only have 3/25… hrm =/

Thanks.

Not to be picky, but there technically is no Nobel Prize in Economics. But the prize that they give is just as prestigious, and is often grouped with the Nobels.

Truazn894532, you are very predictable. And almost as bad as Poster X. For once, be objective. Since you threw a stone, here’s a boulder.

Various econ rankings, from a simple Google search. Don’t mislead people looking for information to pump up Columbia’s rep, based on a puff piece from a city glossy mag.

All those studies are dated, but they all show Columbia firmly OUTSIDE of the Top 10. And a handful of rather recent hires wont push Columbia from 9 - 14 when ALL the major schools are reinforcing their econ faculties.
Try again Tru.

Re the Nobels, you counted “at least” 8 at Columbia today. That’s a wee bit helpful, but I want to know where all the so-called Top 15 schools stand in current Nobel laureates on staff. I guess you can’t answer that question. Oh well…

Presidents and Forbes list members…how is that relevant to the OP??? or are you offering yet another one of your silly boasts;-)
