Unique story - chances?

I know I've posted a lot here..looking to get feedback from some new people. Post links, I'll chance back.

I am applying to a variety of schools, including Cornell AEM, NYU Stern ED2, UVA, UMich, etc.

My GPA is very low. It's a ~3.3-3.4 UW. My SATs are 2100 and ACT is 31, retook in Oct - possibly 32-33.

My Math2 is 750 and I have a 700 in Chem. I took a rigorous course load, labeled as "most difficult" by the GC. She's writing a lot about my situation below. Good Recs and spotless essays.

Basically, my father died before my freshman year. I was a straight A middle school student (99% H Geom and H Alg). Anyways, during my freshman and sophomore years my mother was diagnosed with severe depression and had other health problems. She was hospitalized twice and had two surgeries. I missed countless days because I put my family first. I also was under immense stress and was hospitalized for a day (while my mom was still in the hospital, ironically ). And no, I didn't have suicidal thoughts or depression, I just got sick from the 2 hour nights between school and family.

I always loved technology, and began interning at several technology web firms. In 2009, I opened my own corporation. I manage the taxes, legalities, fiscal matters and some programming. I deal with credit building as well. It is a profitable five figure company with two owned patents. We do web apps for a few semi private clients and internal dev (patented products). I also have extensive research into the stock market, and I have helped countless seed investors invest small (20K avg) amounts into the stocks with a 20%-250% APY. I use techniques like the CAPM and alpha beta correlation. My grades were not low because of my company, it was my family situation, and I make that pretty clear. My business opened during the end of my sophomore year, and my junior grades were better (3.5 ish). My senior grades are a 4.0 UW. I have math to Calc2. Chances?

Bump - anyone :)

WOW. If you talk about your story in your college essays, you have a VERY good shot at all the colleges you listed.

I wish I had your EC's :D!

Chance me back?... http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1224163-what-schools-carnegie-mellon-upenn-will-i-get-into-if-any.html?highlight=carnegie+mellon+or+upenn

Bump -10char

Last bump. 10chars

I have a story similar to yours. Except my unweighted GPA (as of the end of Junior year) is a 3.19 or so. I think for people like us, it will come down to the essay. The better we articulate our stories to adcoms, the better chances we will have. I think you should retake the SATs if you have time, as they are good for compensating for your GPA.

Your chances at these schools are directly proportional to the quality of your essay. Good luck and chance back : http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1233558-my-story-will-my-dream-schools-understand.html

Yeah, I think my essay is pretty good. Getting it looked at by my AP Lit teacher. Thanks:)

no problem. dont forget to chance back : http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1233558-my-story-will-my-dream-schools-understand.html

Sure thing :-)

Bump 10char

bump....:)

WOW, what a fantastic business idea! Your grades aren't the best, but you have an upward trend. Your ACT is pretty good. SAT, idk I have never taken it. The business is amazing though. I myself want to go into trading stocks and what you do is pretty cool. Idk what your tech company really does, but if you show that you are successfully able to run a business and have it grow quickly, you should be able to get into good business schools.

Thanks :)! Any feedback appreciated.
