<p>Can someone tell me what is unique about Minnesota state university - mankato ? .
Or why should someone choose mankato as his/her choice . Basically what is good about the university ? </p>

<p>(I just want to know more about the university and the website doesn’t provide that much of an insight ! ) </p>
<p>Also is ‘good value for money’ a good point to write in the essay ? </p>

<p>It’s not necessarily crass… just explain your financial hardship etc. and how the U has better educational opportunities among colleges of similar price range,</p>
<p>While agree with squidoop that writing about money isn’t necessarily crass… I just think you could think of a different topic that would be better. Colleges want to know about your personality, and money isn’t personality.</p>
<p>I doubt what you choose to write about will make a big impact. As long as it doesn’t seem to “crass”, then I think it would be fine.</p>
<p>I am assuming that since you have to write a personal statement you are an international student. Correct me if I am wrong but US students don’t have to write an essay.</p>
<p>So assuming you are new to Minnesota:</p>
<p>Much of the stereotype of “Minnesota Nice” is true. For the most part students are going to be friendly and helpful and good hearted. Like all college students, some will be immature and others will be focused and driven to get out into the workforce. Many will be first generation to go to college and paying for a portion themselves. There will be farm kids, suburban kids and city kids- a real cross section of the state. There are dorms operated by the university and ones privately owned just off campus. My nephew lived in both. There will be lots of school spirit and they take their ice hockey very seriously.</p>
<p>I’ve never been on campus but I’ve been to Mankato. It is a decent sized town with all the usual shopping centers and a small indoor mall. The downtown could be better, a little depressed since the shopping mostly left for the edge of town. I’ve heard that the downtown is a little improved but it has been about 5 years since I’ve been there. If your family is worried about safety, tell them this is a safe town to be in. I would estimate that it is about 1.25 hours to the international airport in Minneapolis/St Paul.</p>
<p>Are you looking at this campus because of the cost or because there is a particular program you are interested in?</p>
<p>Well to be honest . My bother-in-law studied there and he wants me to study there as well (he did a major in finance and had a minor in accounting and was the vice president during his time ) . But I want to major in Mechanical/Electrical engineering . Since the first two years in engineering all over the world consist of the basic maths and science , i want to stay there for two years and get the hell out and transfer to a better/prestigious university (well , that’s me … I feel that there is a reason universities such as Michigan and Berkley are highly ranked … its because of better connections and good Grad schools ) . Until or unless I get an internship at a very good firm . </p>
<p>Mnsu has a good campus according to my sister and I guess it’s a rational choice on my part as I wouldn’t be wasting my parent’s money over a 40K a year education which includes the basic 2 years of engineering . </p>
