after the 18 units, they start charging per unit? I only ask because if one were to try to double major or even take up a minor, it’ll be kind of difficult for the person in financial need like myself, because taking over 18 units would come out of my pocket?

That sucks. I wanted to double major, or take more electives besides my major if I were to be admitted as a transfer. It definitely doesn’t benefit the financially needy if one wanted to double major or take up two minors.

You may want to discuss your options with an advisor. Some classes, if taken over your 18 unit “cap”, will be paid for by the university (e.g. I’ve heard this is the case with the Engineering Honors Colloquium). Also, if you have a Presidential or Trustee scholarship, they offer an “Exceptional Funding” application for the purpose of doing more than 18 units.

Doing summer school (at much less expensive community college) is a reasonable option as well.

I just want to point out, even with Exceptional Funding, you’re only allowed to take a maximum of 20 units per semester. anything beyond that, even with Exceptional Funding and a Trustee Scholarship, any additional units beyond that must come out of your pocket.

so yes, Exceptional Funding covers 8 additional units, but at a max of 2 units per semester.
