Is anyone from this forum from any one of the 12 United World Colleges (UWC), or knows any information about these schools?

I’m asking because I have considered to continue my junior and senior year at UWC, rather than continue my education at Stuy in NYC. UWC is known for its competitiveness and it might actually prepare me more for the course load given in college. If anyone is from UWC, do you it inact did prepare you more for college? Did it expose you to the college life more (eg: living on campus, living with international students, being away from home, etc.)?

Yes UWC will prepare you for college work. You will actually get some credits for your HL IBs. Being far away from home is the best thing about UWC. You will become more mature and the cultural expericence is exceptional. When you go to UWC, you also get a host family , so you can go to there house on weekends and break. You will gain more than losing if you go to UWC and you will receive the Davis scholarship if you get into Princeton, Middlebury, Harvard and other Davis colleges. I strongly encourage you to apply to UWC.

One of my suitemates went to MUWCI (i think that’s the one in Mumbai…). He liked it a lot, and he was pretty well adjusted to dorm life before coming to yale. PM me with your email, i can pass it on to him (can’t guarantee he’ll reply, though.).

When you go to Udub, you become homesick and want to return home but once you come back home, you won’t even unpack your stuffs because there is another home waiting for you and you are excited about it. If you can apply to UWC, try it. The two years that you will spend there will be the one of the best two digits of your life.

Several schools give IB credits, but others don’t. As kwijibort, gives us an exemple, Yale won’t. Thanks for telling me about yale. I never knew because I never checked their site about it

I seriously recomend you apply to UWC. First the IB program is absolutely fantastic and definitely will prepare you for college. Second you will mature a lot and get used to rooming with people early on.

I have a friend who goes to UWC Adriatic and he got in Yale, Brown and Princeton. I really believe thet UWC will giev you more than a good preparation for college admission. Go for it!!

If you go to UWC then you get accepted into Princeton, COlby, Middlebury, Wellesley (if you are a girl) College of the Atlantic, you will get full tuition if your parents can’t pay. IN the past years, Shelby Davis gives $10000 a year for your college but I think that they increase it to $ 20 000. So yeah, if you can get the aid, most colleges will cover teh rest for you.

I couldn’t apply last year for UWC because they had a strict rule that applicant had to be 16 years of age before the start of the program. (My birthday falls in late November.) However, I have given this program a deep consideration for next year.

There is a problem. I am currently a sophomore in high school. If I apply in my junior year and hypothetically speaking, if I get accepted to attend the 2-year program at UWC, that would mean I have spent a total of 5 years in high school. A) It’s a person issue: Do I want to fall behind one year? Do the opportunities I get at UWC outweigh this issue? It would seem strange if all my peers are in their first year of college and I’m still completing high school. B) (less of an issue, but still a deciding factor on whether or not I apply) would it hurt my chances when I apply for college. Would it seem as if I got left behind a grade?

kwijiborjt: I’d love to somehow get in contact with your friend that attended UWC
