United World Colleges

just to clarify:

The UWC in Singapore is very different from the other UWCs in the sense that students on scholarships there are a minority. Most of the UWCs have the majority of their students on scholarship (at least half of the 10 UWCs have ALL of their students on full scholarships). Hence, I think, the “rich kid” stereotype of UWC kids -in Singapore-. A lot of people would also venture to say that this affects the culture of the UWC in Singapore, since the students there are mainly admitted based on their ability to pay, rather than having been selected through an extremely rigorous application/screening process (like most of the UWC students at other UWCs).

Regarding the ability of UWC kids in Singapore to get into top universities - I actually have a fairly comprehensive list of the schools that the students from the UWC in Singapore were admitted to about 1 or 2 years ago; it is pretty formidable and is comparable to RJC’s admissions stats (which I also have).

Different UWCs also have different university admissions success rates (from what I have seen) - but generally, if you do well academically at a UWC, the prestige of a UWC is a bonus when you apply to colleges/universities.

Don’t judge all the UWCs just based on one UWC, or a few UWC students; especially if you don’t have full knowledge of how the system/movement works, and the differences across UWCs around the world.
