Units from CSU transferrable to UC?

I went to SDSU for a year and have some units that are transferred to De Anza CC. Is it safe to assume that these same units that transferred to De Anza will transfer to a UC?

Here’s an example: I took Math150 and Math151 at SDSU=Math1A/1B/1C at De Anza.

Math1A/1B/1C at De Anza= Math1A/1B at Cal. Would these units transfer to Cal even if it was from a CSU originally but transferred OK to De Anza?

Best you check with assist.org and see if those courses are equivalent to UC courses.

Those equivalents I gave in the example are from Assist. There are no direct equivalents for classes from SDSU to Cal. I am wondering if my CSU credits that are accredited De Anza will also transfer to a UC.

If they had courses at CSU and you can find their equivalents at a UC then it will transfer. The only problem is that CSU offers some courses that the UCs do not offer and in this case it will most likely not transfer.

jhosh- the way you are trying to check transferability is legitimate and one can safely assume that if SDSU course X= DeAnza course Y which equals UC course Z that Z should equal X… but keep in mind that even though this is a safe assumption the UC will evaluate courses from a 4 year on a course by course basis and it MIGHT not be exactly what you are expecting.

Unfortunately the transitive property does not apply in this case. It isn’t safe to assume that any course would transfer from a CSU to UC because the course was transferable to a CCC. Although it will work in some cases it doesn’t always work. There isn’t any great way to determine which courses will transfer from CSU to UC.

jhosh - I’m doing the same thing as you. I just completed a year at CSUF & I went back to Golden West CC.

I took Math 110 at CSUF & I was trying to see if it was equivalent to Math 100 at CC. Turns out my CSUF math class will transfer over to UCI since they both had the “CAN MATH 2” code next to their course descriptions.

My advice would be to print out the info you got from assist.org along with an unofficial SDSU transcript & bring it to a De Anza counselor. They can check if the courses will transfer over & consult with others on your behalf. That’s basically what I did with my situation. My counselor even checked with the person who will certify IGETC to make sure it’s okay.

Hope things work out for you. Good luck!

I’m transferring from CSUF to UCLA, and a lot of the courses taken at CSUF has the same description as UCLA courses. So I would assume that it would transfer over. You just have to look at the course description from CSU to see if it matches the same as the UC school

bump same question. On assist, there’s nothing on the uc/csu articulation it’s all blank…
