SAT: 2070
UW GPA: 3.8
W GPA: 4.2
Yup my friend got her letter without her portal loading @UWdream
For all of you worried about direct admit, I know for CS they send out official letters from the CS department in early April. So you will get formal confirmation about whether you were admitted DA or not in a couple of weeks.
@AskUWAdmissions Will international students studying in the United States get emails tomorrow as well?
@smartypants57
I was told it would be sooner maybe even as soon as the end of next week but nothing is guaranteed
i’m getting less and less hopeful
@collegeplanner11
Oh, really? This is what I saw:
Source: https://www.cs.washington.edu/prospective_students/undergrad/admissions/direct_admission
@smartypants57
I know, I saw that too. I am friends with a lot of last years direct admitted CS majors, as well as regularly admitted CS majors and the general consensus is that there will be an email soon, the letter later. Also, admitted student previews begin in the beginning of April for the different majors so you would theoretically have to know by then.
Okay cool, works for me! Do they notify those who have been rejected as well as those who are accepted?
a friend told me that they’re also notifying people of rejections through the portal… however i’ve seen nothing about this here, so i don’t really know what to think
@smartypants57
unfortunately, something that is really common with computer science programs, or jobs, or stuff like that (especially in seattle) is you just never hear back. My guesstimate is that you won’t be rejected, but your letter and transcript will say “pre-science” or something similar if you aren’t getting direct admission. My mom says they admit 120 people directly and 40 people usually get the gig. They overall admit ~200 per year. Which according to the UW website is about 40% but I have also heard from things like weird prospective student day things called “Discovery Days” that is usually more around 30% or lower. Apparently it’s dropping every year though, because more people are applying and there isn’t anymore room (although they are building a new building currently). According to a friend of my mom’s who used to work there, the UW has a problem with admitting too many student interested in CS (without direct admission), who can’t possibly be in the program.
p.s. sorry that was long
What happens when your unofficial transcript says “Internal error 500”?
Hey guys! I started a University of Washington Class of 2020 facebook page so that it would be a lot easier for us to communicate! Hope to see y’all join the page! https://www.facebook.com/groups/819837734793463/
just put facebook . com where you see the stars haha
I got in for pre engineering. Though i was excited at first cuz i got in, i read online and stuff that you need at least 3.5 GPA in your freshmen year to at least try for the engineering department you want. And i aint risking cuz even if you get 3.5 gpa, it is still uncertain if you will get or not. So yea , thanks UW
I made an account just so I can post on here! I keep checking my portal but nothing has changed
Anyone know around how many students they accept for freshman direct admission to foster school of business? I worked really hard on my scholarship essays and I’d be devastated if I got rejected
@collegeplanner11 that makes sense. However, the website says that only “most” of the DA admits will have their enrollment form saying CS as the major. Does this mean that some people could still have DA without having it on their enrollment form? Also, would UW in HS mess with DA as well, because it messes with unofficial transcript?
- Yes, they could still get DA without it saying so on the enrollment form. But I don’t know the rarity of that but I assume it’s pretty high. To be honest, I haven’t posted anything regarding that on here because I don’t want to give people false hope.
- Not really, at my school UW in HS (or as everyone I know calls it CIHS) is really common. I live ridiculously close by so my perception is skewed. I know it doesn’t because I have done CIHS and still gotten DA.
Also, as I mentioned above and before, my perspective is incredibly skewed. Most people I know have parents that work there, siblings or family that attend, parent alumni, etc. AND have been incredibly involved in UW programs for a very long time. I know people who just applied to the UW because that’s it. Similar to how the UC process works with california students.
Now, I am not saying I am an expert, but a lot of people’s transcripts are tailored to the UW because it’s the closest school. It’s how people measure college readiness.
Hope that helps, but again: not an expert
What is a pre-physicalsciences major. I had appplied to Computer Science
