"Question: How likely is it that a school will waitlist or reject a student because he/she is overqualified and probably would go to a more prestigious school, so the school would “save” its acceptances for another candidate?

Waitlisting seemingly overqualified applicants is a factor at some colleges, but being able to pinpoint which ones in particular participate in that ploy is very difficult. One school that has been relatively famous for this in recent years is Washington University in Saint Louis (WUSTL)."

"We outstripped UCLA five years ago, passed Berkeley two years ago, and are now nipping at the heels of Stanford. Today USC dominates over all competitors in our ability to attract the best students from the best prep schools in California.

All the old USC jokes have died out. We’re no longer the University of Spoiled Children or the University of Second Choice. Instead, USC is now the University of Superior Choice."

I honestly cannot believe that a president of any university would be saying the above. After reading his remarks, I am even more convinced that USC cheats in more areas than just football.

Interesting guy, you should be more direct if you want to bash WashU. What’s with the vague thread title? Too chicken to start a thread with a more daring title? ^.~
