University CREW [ROWING]

I’m real interested in it…am an avid weight lifter so it could totally benefit me, not to mention it’d be a great opp. to meet new people and get STRESS off my back!

the only problem is this: I’m telling you right now, I’m a horrible swimmer…

do you have to be a good swimmer? I would love to row. It’s a great exercise…but will my lack of swimming be a problem?

You don’t need to be a good swimmer at all. All you need to do in the water is walk to and from the boat. (The rest of the time you should remain inside the boat!) You will almost certainly have to pass a swim test, though.

a swimming test…like what? does it vary by school?

I’d really like to do crew.

Most crew swim tests require treading of water for at least 5mins and swimming a couple laps in a normal sized pool.

They basically need to make sure that if you flip the boat you won’t drown.

A lot of schools require a swim test, anyway. It probably involves treading water and swimming a couple laps. If you’re nervous, just ask a lifeguard or swim teacher at pool nearby for help before you’re on campus.

oooh, CREW  im coming to watch. hahah. does a university having a crew team mainly depend on if the university is close to a body of water?

^is that a stupid question?
