Is it best to visit Alabama on University Days or on some other random day?

I think it depends on your kid. If your kid is the type who likes all the “show and glory” then going on University Days is the better choice.

If your child is the type who wants a more “quiet and dignified” type of tour experience, then going on a regular day would be better.

Even if your child is not “into” college football (as my DS1 wasn’t - he’s the quiet, intellectual type), I must say that Bama is infectious. My DS1 is now very much into Bama football. LOL

That said, ALWAYS do a campus tour on a day that school is in session. No campus looks its best on a weekend. I think the best days to tour are M-Th. Fridays can be “mixed bag”. If it’s a home game weekend, then Fridays are too crowded. If it’s not a home game weekend, then Fridays can also seem a bit less lively since many kids try to have few classes on Fridays. Both of my boys only have 1 class on Fridays.

If you’ve read my thread on UA Campus Tour Tips, you’ll see that I also recommend taking the morning tour so that you can use the afternoon to visit to further explore the campus, speak w/ profs, or “sit in” a class (arrange thru department ahead of time).

When will you be touring? :)

Well we are going to visit New College of Florida Oct 9, I don’t want her to miss school 2 weeks in a row, so I’m thinking Monday Oct 19 or Friday Oct 23 (A University Day).

mom2collegekids Univ of Alabama needs to hire you. You are a good spokeswoman for them. lol

Hi,

Normally, I don’t recommend Fridays, but Oct 23 is a University Day and a home game football weekend. Therefore, the campus will be extra “lively” if that is important to your DD.

However, be prepared that alumni and fans arrive on campus on Friday evenings (on home game football weekends) and set up their tailgating stuff (EZ UPs, BBQs, RVs, etc) and kind of “take over” the campus by Saturday. This isn’t unique to UA…this happens across the nation at schools with popular football teams. We found the same thing when we visited schools in California, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, and Texas.

We found the tailgating atmosphere kind of exciting when we visited various campuses, but everyone is different.

If an extra lively visit day isn’t right for your DD, then the Monday date would be better.

here is a link to University days schedule. [University Days - The University of Alabama](http://universitydays.ua.edu/schedule.html)

If this schedule is “too much” for your child, then a regular tour day is probably better.

BTW…there is a pic of Dr. Sharpe (honors dean & CBHP director) on this page. Not a “good pic” - he’s better looking than this shot. LOL
