University Decisions

I’ve narrowed myself down to a list to 3 universities I’m applying to in the US that fit my needs as I will be pursuing a degree on a budget.

I’ve got Penn State, Virginia Tech and Purdue I will be applying to for Fall 2010.

Are there any other recommendations for universities in that price range? Bear in mind I am an international student and can’t stretch a lot further. I have applied to UofT, McGill and Waterloo in Canada

Clemson, Georgia Tech, Kansas, Minnesota.

I’m guessing you’re going engineering?

Try Case Western (good aid), Cooper Union, Olin, Rose-Hulman, and Kettering U.

I am applying for engineering, materials specifically.

I’d just like to know if the universities I’ve picked are good for the course I’m pursuing, or whether there are better universities for the price?

Thanks

I’m going on the Ceramics & Materials Engineering department tour at Clemson today so I’ll let you know if there’s anything worthwhile knowing about it

Public Universities on the US News Top 10 list for materials are
University of Illinois
Cal/Berkeley
Michigan
Georgia Tech
Penn State
Florida

Also good are Ohio State and NC State

I think some of the above recommendations might be too pricey for Int’l students on a budget. And, since cost is a factor for you…

BTW…what is your budget for annual school costs???

These schools have strong engineering programs and are very reasonable for Int’l students…

UAH - Great engineering program and cheap price

University of Alabama Huntsville (UAH) campus sits next to Cummings Research Park (CRP). Many engineering students get internships at top high-tech companies which pay for their education.

Cummings Research Park ( [Cummings Research Park - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Cummings Research Park - Wikipedia) ) is the second largest research park in the USA…It’s located in Madison County and has many, many high-tech companies. Because of CRP, Madison County has the highest density of PhDs in the nation.

[UAHuntsville | The University of Alabama in Huntsville](http://www.uah.edu/)

UAH is inexpensive for OOS and international students. Int’l students are charged the same rate as OOS students - about $17,000 a year for tuition (assuming the student takes 16-17 credits each semester - typical of engineering students)

An OOS or International student could easily go to UAH for a total cost of about $27,000 per year (tuition, room, board, books, etc). That is quite low.

Info about Chemicals and Materials Engineering CME [UAH Department of Chemical and Material Engineering](http://www.che.uah.edu/)

UAH is a growing university. The state has invested a lot of money on the campus, hence the new buildings, new science/engineering labs, new residence halls, new rec center, etc.

Because of its close proximity to Cummings Research Park, it is strong in all high-tech, engineering, science, pre-health, and business majors.
