University Fellowships

Hello everybody,

I was recently admitted at Duke University and nominated for the University-wide John Duke Fellowship. Does anyone have a clue about university wide fellowships in general, or this one in particular? How competitive? How important is GRE vs GPA vs other factors?

thanks.

I’ve heard that for university-wide fellowships, GPA and especially GRE are important factors, since few other parts of an application can be readily compared across fields.

Tinyboss, what you’ve heard is absolutely correct.

Often, the nominating department must write a letter in support of your candidacy as well, ranking you among all of their applicants, etc.
