University Guidance [where to study business management]

Oh I understand. However, I might still be able apply to Trinity Business School, the deadline is until 30 June 2024. Might be worth a shot if it’s a good university?

Also could you explain a bit more about CAO to me? Like UCAS am I supposed to apply through there? The website for CAO says that the late application deadline has closed since the 1st of May.

I would be grateful on your thoughts on these universities.

I also have some concourse offers and I would be grateful if you could have a look at them as well.

  • King’s University College
  • California Lutheran University
  • Seattle University
  • Kent State University
  • Humber College
  • Ohio Northern University
  • University of Missouri
  • Xavier University (Cincinnati, Ohio)
  • Missouri Southern State University
  • Wabash College
  • University of South Dakota
  • Binghamton University, State University of New York
  • Portland State University
  • Hobart and William Smith Colleges
  • Purdue University Northwest
  • The College of Wooster
  • Augustana College
  • Northwest Missouri State University
  • Christopher Newport University
  • Hesston College
  • Houston Christian University
  • Morningside University
  • California Baptist University

  • Transylvania University
  • Illinois College
  • Lewis University
  • Foothill-De Anza Community College District

Are all of these schools within your preferred budget of $40K?

I think so, since I think Concourse gives offers within the range you select. But I have scholarships in most of them so it might bring them within my range if they previously were not.

This would be the first thing to check. Some of those schools cost $80K+ per year before any financial aid.

I understand, but ignoring the cost for now, are any of these good universities?

I also have scholarships ranging from $5,000 to $55,000 in these universities.

You got lots of admissions already!

SUNY Binghamton is New York State’s flagship. Were you admitted to Business (SOM) or engineering ? If so, congratulations, it’s a difficult admit. If you want a large (but not huge) public university that’s the one I’d pick. Note however that it is NOT located near NYC, NY is a large state.
Hobart&WilliamSmith I assume for business- very well-connected college, rather preppy, lots of personal attention, interactive classes.
College of Wooster is excellent if you want to do research and are academically-minded.

Still good but one step down in my opinion: Mizzou (university of Missouri), Xavier, Cal Lutheran, Wabash (men-only), Augustana, Transylvania, Illinois college, Kent State. I’d disregard the others.

SUNY Binghamton jumped out at me on your list too. If it’s affordable, that would be my pick from your list. You’ll have a cohort of bright and motivated classmates.

(I have only read the OP’s initial post in this thread.)

Consider HEC in Paris, France.

Is Binghamton that good of a university? I did in fact get into the school of management with a $5000 scholarship. I didn’t know that the university was as good as I kind of based my opinions entirely out of the QS Rankings. Could you give me some reasons why the university is so good?

I have a $5000 scholarship, but I am not sure how much the university costs without it so I don’t know yet if it is affordable or not. Could you give me some reasons why Bingham is such a good university? Also would you say that it is better than the universities like Manchester and Bath?

It’s a good idea at the Master’s level but here it doesn’t work, because OP doesn’t speak French and HEC’s primarily criterion is math, in which OP currently has a C (but hoping to bring to a B). Some HEC Prepa likely still accept applications but before any application is reviewed the applicant must demonstrate fluency in French. The Bachelor’s taught in English (joint degree in Data Science&Organization Science, with Bocconi) had a sort of priority round with a Nov deadline and thr regular deadline was in January. :disappointed:

I researched HEC Paris and it doesn’t have a Bachelor’s Program. It does have one with Bocconi but it isn’t the course that I want to study.

The QS rankings are completely worthless for the undergraduate level since they mostly use graduate/research output.

Yes, SUNY BING is an excellent university, the hardest NYS public university to get into, especially the SOM.

The difference with Manchester and Bath is that the program lasts 4 years instead of 3, with a lot of flexibility built in. You can add easily minors, something you can’t do in the UK. You can also double major (not easy but allowed and possible in the US, impossible in the UK unless admitted to a jount degree.) There will be a lot of different classes to ensure you’re well-educated and not just a specialist, something which may or may not be a positive for you. You’ll be able to do an internship at both and in the US you can have a job for 1 year as part of OPT whereas in the UK you can be on a pathway to residency. The economic situation in the US is lightyears better than in the UK (though people complain in both countries.)

Would you say in terms of future opportunities, academics and all that it would be better than University of Manchester and Bath? Also just to confirm by SOM, you mean school of Management right? Cause I got two options in the offer, School of Management and Harpur College of Arts and Sciences. I chose the school of management since the other one is an undeclared major.

You did right, School of Management is much harder to get into.
See post above in terms of comparing with the UK.
They’re different (systems, approach, environments…) and both are good.

So overall what would you suggest as a university option? Since you mentioned above that after a few years of graduation it is very hard to work in the US if you are not a citizen. I understand that the economy of UK is not in a very great place right now, which was actually one of my main reasons for looking into EU countries.

I also wanted to ask, that since it doesn’t come so high in the rankings, doesn’t that make it harder to get jobs outside the US? Since, personally I hadn’t heard about the university until a few days ago whereas I knew about Uni Manchester and Bath.

This is what you have to do to understand your net price of each school.

Binghamton direct COA (tuition, fees, room and board) is close to $50K per year, so subtract the $5K scholarship and it is about $45K.

In addition to direct costs, you have to budget for travel to/from home, books, personal expenses, and mandatory health insurance ([about $2,600] at Bing (Health Insurance rate structure | International Student and Scholar Services | Binghamton University).) You also have to complete this form: https://www.binghamton.edu/admissions/undergraduate/pdf/application-forms/international_student_financial_application.pdf

Lastly you may have missed the enrollment deadlines for a number of these schools, and even though you were accepted they do not have to honor your enrollment past their deadline. If Bing or any school where you have missed the enrollment deadline is of interest, you have to contact admissions ASAP. Good luck.

I understand. Thank you so much for your help. Could I also get your thoughts on which university you would choose between UNSW, University of Melbourne, Uni of Manchester, Uni of Bath and Binghamton University? I would be grateful for your insights in this matter.

I will defer to @myos1634 about the international universities, as they are an expert. I concur with the others about the strength of Binghamton.
