< IMO, I, believe, that DS has, will be eliminated at tend of this term.
Washington’s Governor, has asked government and GSE to cut 6%.

DS is staff and does engineering and support to researchers. He’s been associated with this prof for 5 years first a undergrad gofer, special projects. He’s been on half time since April but has kept himself busy by outdoor activities and interesting hobby. He has BS Mech/HCI and MS CompSc.

Budget balancing will cut a lot of research positions.

So does he have a tentative plan laid out yet?

Knowing him, yes, maybe, probably, who knows.
He says that in the last month, he’s been actively making plans and applications.

He has sufficient funds to last his minimalist lifestyle for quite sometime. Its the hobby, which could be a successful career, that will suffer.

His Seattle house has got rabbits along with the chixs. He won’t starve.

Has he put out applications yet for Microsoft (Redmond), Amazon (Seattle) and Google (Kirkland) yet?

thx for your concern.

DS is not a software guy. Currently doing robotics. Probably will move to his passion of design and build.

My concern is USA’s future R & D in the public and private sectors.

University of Washington?
Boeing?

There are many options with those other local companies other than software.
What is his expensive hobby?

engineered art. I think he has a few more items to work on then variations of the existing art before he has an exhibition.

Claim to fame for Carnegie Mellon University, “da Vinci Affect”

yes, he works at UW.
He did a couple of internships at MS Research. He will find a new position, he has acquaintances everywhere with good reputation and personality.

He’s idealistic and from his savings, he can a$$ord to be idealistic.
We are afraid that he could find a position further from home. Odd, We now worry about where he will land but we never worried when he went to CMU and Canada for schools.

thanks again.

I have a kid at CMU also, what a great school. I’m sure he will land on his feet. With that background, MS internships and plenty of contacts, he’ll probably be just fine. In the meantime, if he gets laid off and needs some odd jobs in the local area and some extra chow, let me know, we are close and always need some help around here.
