Alabama requires you to place the enrollment deposit down first before being eligible to join the housing portal, which opened six weeks ago, I think.
South Carolina is another school that makes you enroll before selecting housing.

Just FYI - my daughter did TO for Bama and so we thought no merit but we just got a random email saying she will be given a scholarship for $15k per year. Letting those that did TO know.
Congrats! When was your daughter admitted? S24 applied TO as well so hoping for something similar.
She was admitted back in September. And just got the scholarship email today
S24 got a letter today too saying he is being pushed to notification in March. He received a merit scholarship already but hoping for supplementals. I guess we’ll see what happens in March for total award.
Same here. We weren’t particularly upset because it is exceedingly unlikely that any competitive scholarships would be higher than her automatic one.
Same here. It’s understandable I guess, but I’m ready to know where we stand with each school and get this process over with!
My daughter is still waiting to hear. If she doesn’t hear anything tomorrow, wondering if she won’t hear anything until after the holiday break. Any thoughts?
I think most Admissions offices are open next week. I would expect decisions to go out next week and then pause until January.
One note about Ridgecrest, FYI. There are three Ridgecrest dorms – East, West, and South. However, Ridgecrest South has a “North” tower and a “South” tower, and they are not labeled correctly on the main campus map on the Internet. (One of the towers is labeled as a parking deck, which it has, but it is still a dorm building.) My S23 lives in the North tower of Ridgecrest South. He says there are some non-Honors students living in the South tower. I’m assuming he’s right about that but have no verification of it. He loves living there, by the way. I spent a day and a half living with him and his suitemates as they were finishing up their finals last week, and it’s a really nice dorm. The showers and sinks work great, the refrigerator had no issues, and it was always a comfortable temperature.
Us too- he has also been admitted to Auburn and they have completely changed how they are awarding merit this year. Nothing from them so far and it stinks not knowing if he’s getting anything. Makes it hard to compare offers.
Didn’t do much renovating while I was there! I did enjoy the college-student-for-a-day vibe, though. It’s a long drive and I didn’t want to have to turn around immediately and head back home, especially since I enjoy hanging out on Bama’s campus. Also, my son and I wanted to get in eighteen holes at Ol’ Colony golf club before heading home.
@CarPayDM and @tsbna44 while I have you here, can you recommend awesome restaurants in Ttown? S24 and my husband are headed down there end of January, staying on campus at the Hotel Capstone and need recs for non chain great food. BBQ/Southern/Soul Food? Or others?
River.
That’s our go-to
Mr. Chain is the wrong guy to ask.
I’ve been to Baumhowers a few times because it’s next to the Courtyard Marriott - which is on I20 - a few miles from school.
My son and his at the time girlfriend liked Urban Cookhouse. Yelp rates it #6 (River is rated #3…I’ve never been).
It’s like a really fancy Panera…not Panera food per se - but how I’d describe…so fast casual.
DePalmas is high rated for Italian (not Southern) - it’s downtown - and there are other restaurants there. I think it’s average but the car dealer I call on - they love it.
As for BBQ, people love Dreamland. I don’t…I prefer Full Moon…yep it’s a chain. The vinegar slaw is the best.
Have fun. I’m sure you’ll find great places.
Didn’t know the school had a hotel…that’s pretty cool!!!
I’ve heard River is good but haven’t been there yet. We visited Avenue Pub in August when we dropped our son off, and we all liked it. If you like Mexican food, we enjoyed Central Mesa, too. You’ll like the convenience of staying at the Capstone Hotel. It’s nice to be able to just leave your car and walk onto campus. We always just ate breakfast there in the mornings, too. It’s reasonably priced and the food was good. There are many food options close to campus, so you’ll find something without much trouble.
Yeah, I have been pleased with the offerings in T-town.
Not all chains, and pretty darn good.
Did not like Dillards Chophouse - overpriced and fairly average food.
But Another Broken Egg (regional chain) is great for brekkie.
River - worth the wait (and lovely view with outside patio overlooking the, er, river). Superior food.
And an ice cream place in the same strip of businesses!
Great Mexican at Central Mesa.
Still looking for “the best” BBQ. Have only tried one, and it was good but not amazing.
We like Avenue Pub as well. Jim and Nicks bbq was decent. I don’t love bbq myself, but went with a local who likes it. Urban Bar was also good, but we’ve only been one time. Baumgartner’s is also by the Hampton Inn off McFarland and I’ve gone a couple times when I’m staying by myself since I can walk and have a beer. I’ve enjoyed that as well.
Ahhhh. Mexican. Taco Mama. One in bham too. Always crowded. Always good. A local chipotle.
