University of Alabama Fall '24 Admissions

We’re going. Staying at the Hampton Inn. She’s been on campus before, but not on a tour. I think we will just do the full day and opt for a residence hall tour and skip the full campus one. Should be fun!

If you walk from Hotel Capstone to the Student Center, this is the likely the longest walk your student will ever need to take. You will walk past almost all of the academic buildings, engineering quad excluded, and through the heart of campus. I highly encourage a potential student to explore the campus on foot because the campus is much smaller than it seems. During our bus tour, we felt as if the campus was huge, but when we walked it on foot, we realized the part of campus that our daughter would utilize is only a fraction of what we saw on the bus tour.

Nursing and music majors will have a different experience because their buildings are much closer to the edge of campus. Have fun this weekend!

Can’t wait to hear about the hotel and your trip. S24 and his dad are heading down at the end of the month and staying there too- he can’t make any of the admitted student days so they are making him an itinerary to see the things he wants to see. He has already been on an admissions tour but wants a more in-depth look to make a final decision.

So D really loved the visit. We ended up walking from the hotel to the student center when it was like 30 degrees, but it wasn’t too far. Her favorite part was hearing from Whiting about Blount, and the campus is really beautiful.

Her Blount interview is Saturday, and if she gets in I have a feeling this is what she’d pick. It’s about half the cost of her other two under consideration, and she just can’t get past that the others aren’t $100K better. The biggest drawback for her is wanting to live on campus and not need a car. I know most kids love moving to apartments but she may try to be a Blount mentor in order to stay there an extra year.

My son lived at East Edge his last three years - next to the law school and police station. He had a car solely because he’s a nature guy and went hiking, etc. but he could have been without a car.

He biked to class every day but there’s a bus stop at the apartment for rainy days.

I think there is upperclassmen housing…I mean, they have all those NMFs.

The Publix and Aldi are near and today people Instacart.

My son had a car but I don’t think it’s required.

Congrats to her and best of luck with Blount.

My kid is in Blount; feel free to DM for specific questions on the program, or more info
Glad she liked Whiting - he’s a real character!

My son is a NMF living at East Edge. Fully paid for by UA which is great. He does have a car and drives it to grocery shop and other rare times. He takes the bus to campus daily and finds it convenient. He’s hoping to stay there the next 2 years as well.

I’m glad she enjoyed it.

My daughter overall liked it. She didn’t enjoy the mock lecture we picked. It didn’t seem to have a point and he didn’t use a microphone, so we missed half of what was said when his back was to us. But, the engineering info session and tour were good and we talked to a student with a similar combo of majors that DD would like to do. Plus, she was an IB student too, so they talked about what classes counted and how they were prepared. And she loved seeing the dorm. The dorm is what might make her go there.

Ditto. My son. His own room and shared bathroom with one. Purdue and overcrowding (at the time) out. Bama - gorgeous campus, awesome dorms - in.

Good luck whatever she ultimately decides.

I totally get this. I wish these schools had housing for all four years for anyone who wanted it. None of S24’s schools have a good housing situation and it’s hard, especially being from far away.

One more thing about off campus and a car…some apartments have dedicated buses. They seem to run on schedule pretty well. My son takes it to campus daily. And he took one to another apartment when he needed to pick up his car after some repair work. It is free and was easier than Uber for a kid who never used Uber before. On campus, they have a shopping bus on Sunday that goes to the mall and Target. My son didn’t use it, but I do see it listed.

Even if you’re an hour away it’s hard. I guess it’s good to know this info up front. It was a bit less of a shock when we went to Parent’s Day in Sept and the kids were already talking re signing leases. “We hope you found your classes and you’re adjusting to your roommate, a new campus, being away from your friends and family, etc. so, where do you want to live next year and who do you want to live with???”

Is this a good or bad thing to be moved to the 3rd round? Also, does anyone know the merit amounts of this scholarship?

Your scholarship application has been rolled to the final round of UA Competitive Admissions Scholarship review. Notifications for the final round of UA Competitive Admissions Scholarships will be released in early March.

Do you have an automatic scholarship already? If it’s already at the highest level, it likely won’t change in March. If it’s lower, it could go up. If you are test optional and don’t have any scholarship now, then this is the opportunity to get one. I don’t know if it’s bad to be moved to round 3, but I’ve read a lot of students end up disappointed by test optional scholarships.

For in-state, it’s worth $3,000 up to full tuition. For out-of-state, it’s $6,000 up to full tuition.

I think it’s a neutral thing. We got the same thing a few weeks ago. It seemed on FB that some people got scholarships from the first round (up to full tuition), but it’s basically the scholarship equivalent to being deferred. It’s unlikely that DD would do better than the auto merit, but not impossible.

I did go TO

Stats:

3.93 UW
4.54 W
ACT 26

Logically, that would be a good thing!!

Their process, I don’t know - but if I got that letter, I’d think - my god, another round?? But - I made it and that’s a good thing!!

So I’d be feeling good if I got that note.

I’ve read some on here getting $15K going TO (I think).

Good luck.

Anyone hear yet on second round scholarships? I know it says Feb for accepted students by Nov 30, but being hopeful. Our acceptance was mid Nov, and haven’t received anything about being moved to the third round, so hoping to hear soon. Was TO.

Nothing yet :weary:
