Has anyone heard of someone getting into McCullough scholars in the second round? It looks like a great program but I missed the first deadline.
No idea - but if they’re offering a second round, it’s for a reason.
March 29, 2024 – McCollough second-round deadline (The McCollough Program will accept second-round applicants until application deadline March 29, 2024, 11:59 p.m. CST: second-round offers are made on a rolling basis as slots open; final offers for second-round applicants will be made on April 29, 2024 ).
Room selection happens in May based on date of housing deposit. The UA housing department will send out an email with all the details and times. It is pretty organized.
Do you know if it is rolling? In other words, would I be at an advantage if I submit it ASAP or should I take a solid month and a half to put a lot of effort into it? The essay is pretty involved.
I don’t know anything about the program other than it’s offered and sounds great.
You could take them at their word or I would reach out and ask if March 29th is the deadline or the final deadline.
But if also says offers are made on a rolling basis until all slots are full.
So I’d surmise, the sooner the better from that with a last date of March 29th. But you can reach out and ask - or just get it done and not have to worry!!
But if you just get it done, make sure it’s your best work.
You’re NMF if I recall - and were looking at Tulsa and Arkansas too. Have you settled on Bama?
Yes. If nothing else is affordable (which is looking likely), I’ll go to Bama. Started looking at housing (which is really nice there) and I’m applying to a bunch of honors programs.
Honestly, housing alone was why my kid chose over Purdue. He loved having his own room and having to share a bathroom with one.
Everyone is different. Some are academics or rank.
In this (my son’s )case, best for germ freaks
Congrats on our decision and best of luck getting into McCullough.
Keep us posted! I believe Bama also offers EMT training as a class, which you can take for free and for credit. Bama has many research programs and frankly, no one will care if your GPA/MCAT etc are high enough.
what do you mean by this?
Well, I don’t think getting into the program is a make or break issue for your candidacy. You can join any one of the many programs available at Bama and do just fine.
Has anyone received notice of moving on to Finalist for University Fellows?
Yet not
Nothing yet
Yes, a lot of students get in the second round.
Looking for help evaluating University of Alabama with US News Rankings. The Business school is listed as #47, while the overall school is #170.
By comparison, University of Kentucky’s business school is ranked lower at #70 (tied to Clemson’s) but overall ranking is higher than UA’s at #159.
I know rankings are not bible, but I am looking for someway to compare schools and offers, being OOS for both, and not yet visiting. TIA
Visit and see which you like.
Culverhouse is more well known but it means nothing.
Where can you afford and where do you feel most comfortable.
To each their own - but I’d say Alabama is a nicer/more sparking campus (opinion) but the town is ehhhhh.
UK is very nice - last time I was there a lot of building…but not as nice. But it’s in Lexington and that’s a real city vs. a town.
You will be on campus four years, day after day, and you’ll know after visiting each as they are more different (in my mind) than similar other than SEC sports.
Best of luck to you.
Kentuckian here. In comparing large state schools, I don’t think #170 vs. #159 is that much of a distinction. A few years ago, I believe Kentucky and Alabama were tied in the US News Rankings, which could mean Kentucky is pulling a way a little, but again, I doubt it’s really that big of a deal. I have been on both campuses, and @tsbna44 is correct, Kentucky is nice, but Alabama is nicer. Kentucky is urban, Alabama is more small townish. My son is considering Alabama, but we were impressed with all the new construction and recent improvements at Kentucky. I believe Alabama has more undergraduate students. As far as culture, Kentucky is southern-ish, but not so much in the bigger cities (Lexington & Louisville). Alabama is southern.
Invitation to UFE finalist weekend emailed tonight!
can you put down a housing deposit without committing/enrolling?
No.
