University of Alabama Fall '24 Admissions

Did you have to pay the testing administrator fee when using Modern States? Also, did your student take the test at home? My son plans to use CLEP to knock out a few of his science classes. Thank you.

Room pick time assigned. 7:30 P.M. on the first day.

But it doesn’t really matter since she’ll do Blount. They said to pick anything and once they have the final list of people committed, they will turn the list over to housing for assignment in the Blount LLC.

I guess I’ll have her just pick a random single in Ridgecrest.

This was like 3 years ago and a year ago - Modern States was free. After you completed their course they gave you a free testing voucher. Test was done at home with lots of time flexibility.

These can also be done at any point in your UA “career”. We have an engineering friend graduating in a few weeks doing her freshman year Chemistry via CLEP. You can do it before you come to UA, summer, break, during a semester, Freshamn, Senior.

I don’t know if there is a difference like if you’re trying to CLEP biology classes and you’re a biology major, for example.

This morning we registered for Bama Bound. We were hoping to do July after AP scores, but there were only May and June available for her school. I was fortunately able to just book the Hotel Capstone for the nights we needed, rather than stay in dorms.

Your advisor will let you assume certain scores if you are registering before AP scores are released. No worries!

Hi! Can someone in Blount scholars, who knows someone in Blount scholars, or who has a kid in Blount scholars pm me? It looks cool, but I have a few questions for current students.
Same with the delta initiative!

Oldest is first semester senior in Blount and incoming will be Blount. Feel free to reach out if we can help.

Surprised to receive an email today saying DS received the UA Competitive Admissions scholarship. Had no idea that anything was coming…

Did it change their thinking?

i.e. were they going there anyway (they gave money away), they weren’t going (cost them nothing) - or were unsure, but this makes it more appealing (likely their hope )

I have no clue where they get all this money - but they do!!!

I haven’t spoken to DS yet, but it certainly won’t hurt. UA really wasn’t in the running b/c of their low overall ranking combined with no merit. We went to ASD and the speakers at the business school really inspired DS though. This new scholarship now makes it the second cheapest on the list, leaving more money in the 529 for graduate school. It’s definitely something to consider.

is it in your portal too?

Not that I see…but I don’t see any cost breakdown there.

congrats. How much is the scholarship worth?

Their timing was perfect

Rankings don’t really mean that much. Culverhouse is well regarded in the business circles. Little story to share. My DD21 will be in NYC this summer doing an internship at a top firm. She is attending UNC. Her peers are from all over including several ivy league schools…and Alabama.

To your point on UA:

Agree 100%. It’s more about what your kid does with their degree. Too many people putting emphasis on status schools or rankings and not enough on cost and affordability for their family. Also—-don’t forget the Alumni network including Greeks goes a LONG way. And wow does the capstone have a rich history. Bama sold me just with their marketing materials. That’s where I want my kid to get her business degree from!

UCF and OU as well. Other big NM enrollees.

Only three colleges from Texas: Rice, UT and Baylor.

Just received another scholarship
Today from an alumni chapter of Bama, $2k per year !!! I believe this came from
Filling out the competitive scholarship !!! My daughter is at $17k per year for four years :open_mouth:. hoping they don’t raise tuition too much.

Has anyone received financial aid packages yet? I got scholarship letters, but nothing on financial aid. All my other choices have 5/15 decision deadlines so getting nervous.
