I am trying to decide between UC Davis and American University (in DC). I was admitted as a “Viticulture and Enology” (FYI, thats wine science) major at UC Davis and as a Philosophy major at American University (despite the fact I applied undecided).

I was offered spring (Jan 2007) admission at American and normal fall admission at Davis. At American, however, I can do the Washington Semester program in the fall.

I am curious about how easy it would be to switch colleges/majors inside these universities. For instance, if I do not end up liking V&E could I switch to Political Science at Davis? I applied undecided at American, but they gave me Philosophy (which is ironic, because I do like philosophy, perhaps they got that info from something else I filled out) but I want to beable to transfer to the School of Public Affairs or School of International Service. Can I do that?

I don’t know about American, but unless they have changed things since I was a student, its pretty easy to change majors at Davis as long as you are not trying to get into an impacted major. The UC’s don’t generally require you to declare a major until the end of your sophomore year, and changes are very common.

whoa, that’s the coolest major ever!! I would go to UC-D. like calmom pointed out, you can spend time in Washington, DC at pretty much any school.

American has one of the best political science programs in the country…it’s also in DC–fulltime…I don’t know about UCD, but American is tough to beat in regards to poli sci.

Ive actually seen Davis ranked ahead of American for poli sci…plus Davis is the better school overall for a person who isnt sure of thier major since it has a wider base of study.

davis if you are in state. tough call if you are outta state. i believe davis has better academics, but i prefer the location of american. i however would still choose davis.
