I was filling out the UC Application, and I have many questions about the Scholarships Section. As a permanent resident of the United States, will I be eligible as “First-Generation American” and “First or second generation Asian-American”? Is East Asian studies included under “Humanities discipline”? What is the difference between “Teaching” and “Education” under Career Plans? Should I also check “Hard for hearing” when I am only deaf on one ear? Thank you.

I’d mark First Gen American
Yes
One is a little more specific (teacher) while one is more broad (job in education field)
Yes

Mark “yes” for all of those. But remember, you only get 16, so you may need to eliminate some when you’re done, just to bring it down to that number.

So if I have more than 16, which one should I eliminate? Is there a particular option that brings better scholarship than another?

No clue. My best guess would be to keep the more “unique” ones, where possible, but that’s just a guess.
