i don’t go to UCI regularly, so I drove on University & campus, and it was terrible.

Pier 39 is just a worthless tourist trap.

as an irvine resident i will note that while traffic is generally not a problem here, there are times when things get pretty gridlocked. 5 or 405 north at jamboree are simply undoable. the worst traffic in the city is probably around culver and michelson, nice and close to UCI.
(except during rush hour, when it’s over in the business complex)

you just put me in the mood for charro chicken. there is a charro chicken at culber and michelson.

Pier 39 may be, but it’s something you HAVE to do at least once. That, and going to Alcatraz.

Pier 39 is my LEAST favorite part of The City. All it is is tourists.

And Ive never been to Alcatraz, out of the hundred or so times Ive been in the area.

what is pier 39?

Pier 39 sounds like the equal to our Hollywood bus tour. The problem is when you are a tourist, you dont know where to go… That is why I would like to live up north for awhile and experience what is up there.

i got a question. is berkeley, ucla, or ucsb better for economics/premed?

It’s a place with hella seafood restaurants, an aquarium, earthquake exhibits, and shops.

Not nearly as lame as the bus tour… lol

i am driving to berkeley tomorrow, and I am going to visit Pier 39, Alcatraz, and Berkeley. i’ll post my findings.

i just got an invitation in the mail from UCLA to the “Academic Advancement Program Transfer Scholar’s Day”. hella long title, lol. Is anyone going, or know what it exactly is?

hgraehl:

Let me tell you something my Vector Calc teacher told us. She went to Berkeley herself, and she looked at me straight in the eye and said, “Don’t go to Berkeley! Just don’t”. I asked her why, it seemed like she wanted to say so much but for some reason she simply told me, “You will work hard paying bills and in the mean time academically get Cs”.

I personally think there is a bit of competition; as a result, no one helps one another ON PURPOSE (disgust me when I see such environment). Most important of all, I’m not a smart kid as I tell everyone, I just work too hard. So people like me will work their arse off at UCB and end up getting nice Cs. I would rather learn material completely at a moderate level then half learn material at a hard level. I may be wrong, but that’s what I think. I hope it helps.

When I get accepted to UCLA, what do ya know! I turn and I see you setting there! BTW, if you have not taken Ochem 2, I think it is even easier than the first Ochem…of course, a teacher can make it hell for you. If that should be the case then you worship the textbook.

is there an orientation day for ucla?

Does anyone have an opinion on my chances for UCB as a Sociology Major given that:

Transfer Student from American River College (Top Rated JC by the UC system and highest number of transfer students for UCB originate from ARC)

Transfer GPA: 3.96

Extra Curricular is fairly strong - could be better, but could be a lot worse

Accepted at UCSC - I know they are independent, but some believe they are not for certain aspects so I added that for those that are of the latter opinion

Essays were strong, dealing with aspects of myself at the societal level (sociology applicant after all), personal level, and mindset.

From a family that is low on the class ladder with very little college history.

Highly recommended by an NGO that I volunteer at.

The major is not impacted at this time

I believe that I have a great shot at getting in (95% probability), but I thought I would hang myself out there to see what others thought.

I think its only for black people!

mad-toilet

“Top Rated JC by the UC system and highest number of transfer students for UCB originate from ARC)”

where are these community college rankings?

collegebound, I couldn’t find one. I was going to go down the second weekend in May, and check out San Diego’s admit day first, then come back up and see LA, take a tour on Monday (all the weekend ones are full). And then if I get into Berkeley, check out their admit day (I live in the Bay Area, so that’s not far either way). But I at least want to see the school (it’s been like, five years) before I commit.
